when i was a kid there were calls for the federal government to fund 50,000 extra cops nationwide to help control crime. people wanted to see cops constantly patrolling their neighborhoods.
what's the difference between that and installing cameras? these days i actually want cops to crack down on dangerous drivers
Well, if a cop is there and sees something going down, he can stop it*, whereas all camera can do is record the activity.
if my ipad breaks i have 10 apple stores within an hour's distance. if my nexus breaks what do i do?
Hell if I know; at least you have the option. There isn't an Apple store within 500 miles of where I live, unless you include Best Buy (I don't).
Anyway, I was just responding to your statement, "its like the idiots running these companies make me give money to apple," by pointing out that you do have other options, disagreeable though they may be.
You know... This won't necessarily get 3D printing banned (well I HOPE not).
ignore the FUD; it won't, any more than CNC mills and drill presses are banned (which can be used to make a REAL firearm, not a novelty that self-destructs after a couple rounds).
"He stepped into the hallway with a 12gauge shot gun"
And I am 100% in favor of people who pass a background check being allowed to purchase a 12 gauge shotgun that can hold 2-4 rounds of ammunition for use in their home for such a situation.
I am 100% against them owning a an AR15 which can fire 30 substantially more lethal rounds in a very short time.
Then you don't understand your own history, rights, or why you have them.
If you're an American, you should be very, very ashamed of yourself for this.
Charliemopps, I am not questioning you or judging you in any way, I am genuinely trying to understand why someone needs a gun ready and loaded at all times.
I've said it before and i'll say it again. The point of an armed populace isn't to fight an army at full strength. It's to be able to escalate domestic oppression to levels which make the government think twice, rather than sitting around and letting the secret police disappear people one at a time.
It is a commonplace that the history of civilisation is largely the history of weapons. In particular, the connection between the discovery of gunpowder and the overthrow of feudalism by the bourgeoisie has been pointed out over and over again. And though I have no doubt exceptions can be brought forward, I think the following rule would be found generally true: that ages in which the dominant weapon is expensive or difficult to make will tend to be ages of despotism, whereas when the dominant weapon is cheap and simple, the common people have a chance. Thus, for example, tanks, battleships and bombing planes are inherently tyrannical weapons, while rifles, muskets, long-bows and hand-grenades are inherently democratic weapons. A complex weapon makes the strong stronger, while a simple weapon--so long as there is no answer to it--gives claws to the weak.
Since everything was done in secret, I can't even remotely provide proper feedback into our broken democratic system.
Sure you can - your democratically elected, public officials attempted to secretly alter public policy; Therefore, they are not worthy of re-election.
Apart from that, you can always hound them about their secret activities, and when they try to give you some bullshit excuse, use their own words against them:
Using the word "period" at the end of your sentence is asinine, aggressive, and adds nothing to your assertion. Period.
What would you call jumping into the middle of a conversation purely for the sake of criticizing the words that someone used? Pedantry? Narcissism? Douche-baggery?
how about an app that says "oh yeah" in Kool-Aid Mans voice with every extreme G maneuver ?
FTFY.
OH YEA!
Personally, I would rather all my aerial screws be leg-powered... much better traction that way.

* Not that he has a legal obligation to do so.

Service-based computing == separating fools from their money.
its like the idiots running these companies make me give money to apple.
You could always pick up a couple Nexus', give your money to the Goog instead.
You sound like someone who has absolutely zero experience with children.
What about countries where firearms are illegal or strictly controlled?
You mean places like Syria, Iran, and North Korea?
Hope you can live with the blood on your hands.
Do you also place blame on Boeing for 9/11? Chevrolet for all the people killed in DWI accidents? No? Then STFU.
Oh I forgot to also mention, getting through metal detector checks might be an issue....
Right, because bullets aren't made of metal, and they don't train dogs to sniff for gunpowder...
You know... This won't necessarily get 3D printing banned (well I HOPE not).

FYI I'm Australian and lucky enough to be in a country that has proven gun laws work.
So... you're a serial rapist/violent criminal, then?
Because judging from the statistics, those are the only groups who would think that Australia's gun ban is working.

Sounds to me that, if we need to be regulating anything, it's the knee-jerk reactionary jackasses scared of their own shadows...

Here's a good starting point:

Obama is neither a very good liberal nor a very good conservative.
Turning into one helluva fascist, tho.
The current President is in fact the holder of the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to him because he was not George W. Bush.
That's a pretty good reason.
Then where the fuck is mine???

I like the wording in this article.:
"While unsuccessful, it underscored a desire for legislation that took more explicit efforts to protect individuals' Internet privacy."
A desire by whom, praytell?
The fucktards commenting on Yahoo! News.
Seriously, you want to lose all faith in humanity? Go read some of the shit those ego-maniacal sociopaths post. It's fucking depressing.

I'd say, all of the above.
... and therein lies the issue with essential certification being tied in to a proprietary, privately owned-and-managed system.
Personally, I find it a bit mind-blowing that we have to finance goddamn cell phones.
Then again, the Nexus 4 works on T-Mobile, and it's less than 300 Big Boys...
Why would anyone finance a phone again?
yes, but not a plan contract....
Does T-Mobile make that distinction plainly in their advertisements?
If not, then it's deceptive. Period.
No, it's not. The advertise no contract; which the provide
Do they make customer sign a document that is a legally binding agreement? Yes? Then it's a contract.
IANAL, but I can see the forest for the damn trees.
Separating an egg using the shell is not terribly difficult but for the novice will be a bit of a challenge and using a vessel will make it easier.
A vessel... like, I dunno, an egg shell?
