The lure of 'ownership' is a great advertizing tool, no matter how frivolous the object, especially to possessive people who crave social status. Maybe, some day, man will outgrow such childish desires.
Compared to a computer, a human is utterly incompetent to operate any heavy machinery. The reaction times and accuracy just aren't there, and never will be. That makes you comparatively dangerous, no matter how 'law abiding' you might be. And the damn law can distract you from actually driving the car. You're too busy looking in the mirror for the cops, talking on the phone while shaving, when you rear end the guy stopped at the light.
I work in the computer industry and I know computers are as reliable as a fucking 16 year old teenage boy.
Trying to be funny, eh? If you think self driving vehicles are more dangerous than human operators, you haven't paid much attention to the actual numbers. Look at the airline industry statistics, and then come back telling me how unreliable the electronics are with a straight face.
I hate cars! Every time I drive one of the damn things, I want to go somewhere... For me a car is for traveling, not this day to day crap that makes everybody crazy..
Cinemas offer nothing special anymore in terms of viewing experience,
Not true. A congregation of people enjoying the same thing at the same time is very much part of the viewing experience. That's why people still do it, and they always will. Only the scale will change.
And it's silly, kinda inside out. The next big thing should be life like 3D holograms playing on the coffee table or the deck out back like it's on a stage.
Please, I beg of you, stop it! You are 'stuck' with them because you vote for them. Doesn't anybody on this planet know how to end an abusive relationship?
Every American gave them a dollar (in a manner of speaking). What, now they want two? What if we just have more kids? It appears the economy depends on it.
Yes, the man is a predator. Find me a successful politician who isn't. The IMF is one thing. He was also running for president(?) in the French elections. Dirty politics abound. He was thrown under the bus by his fellow rapists. And from what I can gather, he's still living pretty well.
On Assange, I put forth the question, where's his money coming from? I wonder if he has a maid:-)
Yeah, well, stop voting for them, or, as they say, quitcherbellyachin... In the meantime, everybody needs to look at this as an incentive to circumvent the corporate wire, and maybe be a bit more careful who they vote for. Nobody is forcing them to vote for corruption. As far as I can tell, they're doing just like American voters looking to vote themselves a bigger piece of the pie. This is the result. The government governed by majority rule is only a reflection of the majority. It rewards corruption. Don't blame the corrupt politician for being successful at what he does. That's like punishing a dog for obeying your commands.
Fine, then don't blame anybody but the individuals in the collective. Everybody has the whole thing completely backwards. This is intentional, to avoid responsibility for the consequences of their own choices. 98% of the world disagrees with me. It don't mean shit. 98% of the world is what gave you the system you have. Without them, your "one percenters" would have nothing.
I can see why you might not to have wanted to post a link to that. The first one I found was a right wing rag, so now I'm wondering who's farting into the wind here. Then I find the original article (pdf, pg 11) at another right wing rag...
Government malfunction can only be blamed on the people who vote for crooks. What could be simpler? What is this? Does Greenwald think privacy is going to trickle down? Where have we heard that before? If people cared about their privacy they would vote for politicians that would respect privacy. But they don't. So forget about it. We just have to make the authorities more transparent.
I almost wish that Amazon didn't pull the thing, just to give a poke at the damn complainers. It could only help sales. The thing is a pretty good reflection of the kind of society behind it. Oh, wait.. Now I get it. It had to be pulled because it reveals too much.
It's not Oil being a part of the equation, it's cheap oil...
Kinda confirms that abundance is a problem. We're swimming in it, and look at our condition. Pffft.. actually it's improving. I still say there's no time like the present. I see no point in the past that was any better than right now. And I do remember 35 cent gas and cigarettes, and five dollars bags of weed. Christ, that stuff was like smoking hay!

Everything old is new again.
Good to you so proudly standing for the queen....
Kick starting a war is bound to be successful. It appeals to the most basic of nationalist, territorial instincts.
Of course I'd really question why people want remote starters in the first place.
I guess you live in the tropics...

Who's paying his room and board, and how can I live so easy in somebody else's house?
No, it cannot be. They didn't vote for the crooks that are running the show. The people who did vote put them into office.
Sorry, forgot the first link...

Well, it appears there's a big enough audience to take the show on the road. So far it's a hit. What can I tell ya?
Obviously they're targeting Slashdot's front page for attention. It worked, didn't it?
I wasn't really talking about China's fence...
