    Here is the perfect solution for you. They are extremely cheap and the size of a postage stamp. I even hacked one of these things a week ago by adding a few 2n2222 in parallel to bost the effective signal to over two miles.     Why a launch rail at all? If a rocket has a good guidance system why on earth does it even need a launch rail? If it had a good guidance system it would have even recovered. Nothing special about a guidance system, guess the just could not figure out how to code a 16f84 pic "more than enough to do the job"!

    What the hell does that got to do with .NET idiot. .NET has nothing to do with a language you dork. It is nothing more that a fancy name for SOAP. When are people going to relize that .NET is nothing special, XML-RPC has been doing it for years.

    The stuff is plain not maintainable - period. It has nothing to do with the power of the language. Perl is a powerful lanugage but to write to look clean is another issue all together. I have time and time again been handed perl that others have written. Every single time I just end up re-engineering the whole app start to finish. In a corporate setting I have to produce code that others can maintain and perl just does not foot the bill.

    It may be that every idiot that I have seen today has written shitty code. But on the other hand I have never seen python code that was not clear and understandable. My opinion is based very much on experience and not by looking at just one persons code. I would be willing to bet that I could write stuff in perl that would look very readable but I would have to go really out of my way to do it.

    I just left the navy after 10 years of service as a IS type. I can tell you for a fact that Windoze does absolutly nothing mission critical. They might use it for typing up some messages but all combat / intel / recon software is all based on unix in most cases HP.

    Frigging .NET has nothing to do with a compiler. It has everything to do with SOAP and there are already SOAP implementations for Linux. So what the hell is everyone bitching about if you wish to build a Linux .NET app today you by all means could.

    Come on Linux already is fully capable of doing .NET . .NET is nothing more than a fancy way of saying SOAP which is the underlying base of the .NET architecture. The original specification was XML-RPC which was enhanced to the new SOAP standard. SOAP is already implemented in both PERL and PYTHON so .NET is already here someone just has to use it. As for M$, I see them exploiting the binary implementation to break or disallow compatibility.

    I have only ever met one college student with a cs degree that was worth a damn. The answer to the question is a very easy one and one that I firmly believe in. If you have to be taught then by all means you must go to college. If however you are capable of teaching yourself and have the dicipline to do so then skip going to school. I also believe that as a programmer if you have to be taught you are missing the key ingredient called desire thus need to be looking at another field all together.

    Perl has got to be the worst language I ever had to maintain. I convert every piece of perl code I have to touch as quickly as I can. I do not care who wrote it the perl language leads to ugly, unstable and unmainatainable code. Blow mod_perl out of your ass it is nothing but road pizza compared to php.

    I used to be in the military and worked on a hp box that had a app like you mention well before 1991. The application was called JOTSII it had a motif front end with tons of middleware as well as database backends to store communications data. I am sure that you could do a little surfing using the JOTSII name and come up with a ton of stuff. JOTSII stands for joint operational tactical system. SAIC is Science Applications International Corporation and another company called INRI was also involved in the development.
