Ok what makes sense here? First of all the article does not get into any detail at all but here is what I see.
RedHat has been shipping Postgres in every distro for a long time. Mysql on the other hand you have to download and install yourself, we definately see a preference for Postgres. Postgres is technically strong database but it lacks in tools. If RedHat takes it the last mile it could easily unseat mysql and I would switch in a minute. It is all in the implementation, if they supply the tools our enterprise will buy it in a heartbeat.
Ok I will play your game, will it run on my amd thunderbird? I would gladly buy it, if it in fact it did, that is why apple will always be a little player.
Cognos has every single feature you are describing and then some. It is a very solid product but it does have a price. Can you build something like it for the price I hardly think so.
And what may this pre processor that they speak of may be? Perhaps and this is a long shot that it might do something with those pascal files? And yes of course I am being a troll no question about it.
Wow, I have been trying to convince the goons at work for the last couple of weeks that we do not need MS SQL server and the expensive licenses that go with it. The problem is that when I mention the word postgres or mysql they cringe because it is words they never heard before. Now when I go in monday and I say the word SAP jaws are going to drop. The question then will become how fast can we convert. Pascal now that is just a plus since we are a delphi shop an strong supporters of the pascal language.
Fossil driven companies are the one's that are likely still running Windows NT 4 shops: That ActiveDirectory and Windows 2000 is too dern confusin'! (Note: There are shops that are still NT 4 because it makes more sense, however in general the fossil shops take many, many years to transition because of an IT crew that doesn't want to negate what they already know)
No some shops just do not wish to pay M$ for a upgrade to another unstable POS Opertating System.
CF should never be mentioned anywhere ever.. CF has to be the slowest crap I have ever seen. Hell ASP can beat cold fusion on a bad day and that is not saying much. Neither one can stay running for more that 15 minutes at a time so they do not count.
CDO is the biggest piece of hogwash I ever tried to deal with, in php on the other hand to send mail I use a single damn call mail . Not to mention the fact that in able to do anything with asp requires that it stay running for more than 15 sec at a time.
How many of you actually know how powerful xml-rpc actually is? By the responses I would say less than 1 in 50. As far as I am concerned Dave has every right to pat himself on the back. The man is just about single handedly responsible for the technology buzz that will be showing in strength this year. It is really nothing more than a way to communicate with objects remotely no matter what the platform or language. Now the question becomes should we support SOAP, the answer is a explicit no! SOAP is a total bastardization of the xml-rpc protocol to support COM.
Java crap is slow as hell just hit any jsp site to see how bad. even poorly written perl or python could hands down smoke jsp. Hell I bet even cold fusion can beat that junk
Compile it into apache if you want to break speed records. Create a apache module to run your stuff and compile it right in. It is not goig to run any faster than that.
Starband rulez the two way dish market. I used to have directpc and it sucked in comparison. No limits and kicks direcpc's speed. Plus linux drivers exist for starbands modems, just nat and go no client license garbage (plus the source luke).
Nothing needs to be built just implement xml rpc. It is a perfect protocol for this usage. It is the original.net before MS claimed it.
USE THE CODE LUKE!
First of all lets get one thing straight. I live way out of town, cable tv is not even a option and probably will never be. The phone lines a total crap 19200 max speed. I had a direcpc and it did a fairly good job for me. I was offered a beta tester spot with starband about 4 months ago and took it. If you live in the sticks it is a great option. If you have dsl or cable stick with it, if that is not going to be a option then fire up the ole dish and point it south

Launch a tomahawk in there and destroy the plane on the runway. Problem solved ....

Yes that is what I want to do use perl, my god man it just lends it self to such nice readability. Yea Right!
Who has one of these slick expires with two plays files. Sounds like a fun crack to make it play forever. Eat them bits...
If they started using linux instead of MS products they could afford to send 10 of them a year at least.

What a great platform to collect porn pictures from the nearest bathroom.
Heavy and makes a mess if you open it.

With a bunch of 2n2222 transistors and a handful of resitors I am sure that I could get a few miles out of it. Kick the output up to say 10 watts.
I cannot smoke at work so I do not want you jepordizing my health with your damn cell phone, we need a few more laws.
Thats all we need is a bunch of underskilled H1B visa holders. Stay home and tend to your goats.
