Congress shall make no law... abridging the freedom of speech... except insofar as your freedom of speech doesn't interfere with someone else's rights.
Stand up in a crowded theater and yell fire the the hell of it. When someone gets trampled to death in the ensuing chaos, you'll be liable for a) criminal negligence, b) enciting a riot, and c) quite possibly voluntary manslaughter (at least).
Like the old saying goes, your right to swing your fists around ends at the tip of my nose.
Their P/E ratio should be undefined. I've seen reports that Apple reported Q1 results of $8M loss. By definition, that makes E(arnings)=0, so P/E is not defined.
There is certainly Mac software to fill about any need you can think of
The really sad part about this statement, and Larry Ellison's recent remarks about linux being the future, and Microsoft the past, is that there is still no linux nor Mac OSX version of the Oracle Developer tools, nor the jinitiator plugin which is required to run Oracle Applications from a non-IE browser.
Until those happen, I'll be stuck with Winbloze for at least part of the day...:(
Someone else pointed this out... In the left hand original at this site, there is a guy squatting in the foreground at the bottom left corner of the picture. He's got a red and white bandana around his neck. In the picture on the right, he's now partially obscured by the soldier, but you can see his back just to the right of the soldier's leg. In the composite, you see both.
It becomes fairly obvious when you inspect the crease in his clothes formed by his upper and lower leg, and the pattern of dirt smudged on his knee.
You can tell the photographer changed perspective slightly by noting the position of the blue water cooler. It's pretty much in the middle of the left picture, fairly unobscured. In the right picture, it's now only visible between the arm and leg of the squatting man in the white tunic. Taking that shift in perspective into account, it becomes pretty obvious that the red/white bandana man is in the composite picture twice.
It IS a violation of the DMCA. He doesn't have a license to decode the "encryption" on the DVD, so he is trafficking in a circumvention device. In the eyes of the DMCA, it doesn't matter if the only use is the fair use of a legally licensed DVD (yes, licensed... i answer to no one over the goods I purchase, so i must be licensing DVDs). You don't pay the murderous cabal of the MPAA for the rights to decode their "encryption", you're violating the DMCA.
You are a prime example of what's wrong with this country. It doesn't affect me, so why should I give a shit. Me me me me me... The world doesn't revolve around you. These laws (were they to become laws) would affect a lot of people, and in an adverse way.
My ISP doesn't give a fat rat's ass if I run an email server. I don't allow open relays, so it deals with about 5 emails a day. Big whoop...
I'm kind of surprised they haven't bitched about my 1-2 GB/day Usenet habit, though...
CNN claims the other 2 landed harmlessly in the desert. Maybe they didn't try to shoot down the other two... or do you have a link to a story that explicitly states that they *missed* the other two?
That's ok, he can just use his time machine (where else did he get his dvd rip from a non-existent dvd?) and go back to 9/10/2001 and tell everyone what's going to happen. Then he'll be a hero. Or shot, who knows...
I cannot confirm this. I just used cmd-n to open 10 new pages (which autoload/. [my homepage]). All 10 popped up in their own windows... no tabs. And before you ask, yes, I did get a copy of v62 this morning...
It was a hypothetical case-in-point rebuttal to the OP. I don't have a divx version of LotR lying around. I could easily create an mpet version with my DVDs, but I don't want to...
I do have the aforementioned ~10GB mp3/ogg files on my laptop, though. And to address another person in this thread... I created all of those mp3s with iTunes, which I got with my iBook, so I am using a licensed encoder. I got the license for iTunes from Apple when I bought the computer, and Apple paid the patent holders a license fee for including an mp3 encoder in one of their apps...
Those mp3s on your hard drive aren't fair use. Those divx copies of lord of the rings aren't fair use either.
Bullshit. I bought those albums, so it is most certainly fair use. If I started sharing them with someone else, then it would not be. Just because I carry 10GBs of mp3/ogg on my laptop does NOT mean I have violated any law, civil or criminal.
Similarly, how is having a divx copy of LotR illegal if I bought the dvd and ripped it myself?
I can only assume you're referring to people who illegally download mp3s or make divx copies of illegally recorded theatrical showings of movies, but you need to be specific! The lack of specificity insinuates that we're all rampant filesharers, or that the only use of MPEG compression technology is piracy. Keep it up and the next thing you know, the MPEG consortium will have to disband or be incarcerated...
Much more efficient? I can get an entire season in 1 week off Usenet. I'm already paying for my ISP, and I already have a computer with a BHHD (that's big honking HD). A Tivo will cost me more money (since I don't already have one) and a monthly service charge, and I'll only get the eps the local affilliates want me to see. Besides, until I sell my townhouse, I'm paying 2 mortgages. I don't have money lying around to toss at cool tech.
I fail to see how this is a better approach... as for buying them... I do. Just as soon as 20th Century Fox decides to release them. There's 2 seasons out on DVD with S3 slated to come out "some time this year." I've already bought S1 and S2, and have a deposit down on S3 with a local dealer. So there... thppppt!
Nope... Simpsons and Futurama mostly. Lately, I've been able to dl nearly 1 season (Simpsons) per week. That's 22-25 files that weigh in between 160-220 MB each, 4-5 GB total.
It did say NRA4EVER in The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular... (S07E10 - 3F31) when Troy McClure mentions another of the in-jokes that are sprinkled throughout every episode... which is a joke in and of itself.
It's not quite breakfast, it's not quite lunch, but it comes with a slice of cantaloupe at the end. You don't get completely what you would at breakfast, but you get a good meal!
According to the people at Suncoast Video, who took my $5 deposit, March. According to a reviewer at Amazon who claims to have read an interview with someone in marketing with 20th Century Fox, May.
Sometime in the first half of this year is probably a safe bet. IMNSHO, seasons 3 and 4 are definitely the best!
I agree that the writing has gone downhill, but I don't really think that Conan O'Brian had much to do with it. According to www.snpp.com, Conan only wrote 3 episodes (New Kid on the Block, Marge vs. the Monorail, Homer Goes to College) and 1 part of Treehouse of Horrors IV (Wraparounds).
On one of the DVD commentary tracks, Matt Groening makes it sound like the true creative genious behind early Simpsons episodes was George Meyer. A lot of the great jokes/gags apparently came from him.

It's a mac.com address. I seriously doubt it will (can?) be slashdotted.

That's WAY MORE than I ever wanted to know about the Turing Test!

One full quality DVD image... 4.7 GB. Add on one ~20 min VCD and poof! There's your 5GB...
FWIW, this applies to video, not just pr0n... if you know what I mean.

No thanks. I'd rather they just ignore TW broadband areas...

Oh wait. You dropped the word 'on' and added a link. I guess you're ok ;)
And of course, later in that episode, Bill Gates and two of his toughs drop by to "buy him out"... Nice poke at M$s anti-trust troubles.
H: All right brain, you don't like me, and I don't like you, so let's just get through this so I can get back to killing you with beer.
Brain: Deal!
H: Shut up brain, or I'll stab you with a Q-Tip!
and from a more recent episode
H: Bacon that sausage boy! Bacon it...
