    yes as an older Fortran programmer id jump at a chance to get into HPC and writing fortran again any jobs going in the UK ?

    Oh come FORTRAN io isn't that hard on you just have to suck it up and learn to use the format statement - hell i worked on a billing system that was 70% FORTRAN 77

    If its really heavy compute intensive I would say use fortran its relatively a simple language to pick up rather than C++ or C.

    yes i had to work on OWS at british telcom "because they standardized on it and it was a pile of **** and they where worse than useless in back porting y2k fixes for anything the bleeding edge versions of their software .

    Hint you cant just upgrade a mission critical system to the latest version and cross your fingers in the military - oops that fire mission went AWOL , any how who needed that hospital anyway ;-)

    Not in the case of a legal system if the police come after you with a valid court order DBP, BT, France telecom et all will go ok hear is the data you wanted.

    And I bet in inquisitorial systems the juge d'instruction might be able to look at your phone records (meta data) before you are charged.

    Its slower and you slow down everyone else in the queue behind you - as they say the GS guide to being a man "Always carry cash. Keep some in your front pocket." Don Draper woudl not use a credit card to by a coffee on the morning commute or martinis in a bar nuff said!

    From experience not every second - doesn't sound like the normal background radiation of scans - scanners will be looking for /wp-admin/ /phpmyadmin and popular packages to exploit.

    Don't take this the wrong way but you need to get out more tracking every expenditure down to the last penny/cent is just wasting time you could be doing more fulfilling / interesting things.

    And obviously you dont pull out £200 wedge of cash at the bar just keep a couple of 10's in your pocket - and you are more likely to get robed coming away from an ATM when you take money out.

    There are these things called ATM's and shouldn't you learn to budget better so that you have enough change for the buss/coffee on the way to work.

    in the more upmarket ones is aimed at business people on expenses - so its just another way to ramp the bill up if your on expenses you dont realy care how much it is as its not your money

    The question is just as in the USA possibly he didn't read all his briefing papers and understand what he was being told. The lib dems have form in saying what people want to hear ask any Labour or Conservative activist and they will agree with me

    Yes lets be honest as a very junior minster from the junior partner in government what did he expect its not like he is the Home secretary (Security Service) or the Foreign Secretary (SIS and GCHQ).
