  4. Even if that were true, the voice actor certainly has control over their name.

The studio would not be able to claim the actor plays a part in any of the promotional material for the movie.

  5. I am sure that there will be ways to determine whether or not it is an altered audio clip just like it is possible to identify photoshop pictures. Whether it is imperfections, algorithmically induced patterns, meta data, etc.

As this election campaign has proved (yet again), people will believe what they want to believe. So doctored audio clips are not going to add or subtract anything to that equation.

Even if this was somehow a failing of Windows (which it most likely isn't), how far is an IT director going to get pushing an OS that is incompatible with the hospital's software applications (accounting systems, patient records, etc, etc)?

Now, that isn't to say that there aren't grounds for this IT director's dismissal. It could turn out that they were negligent and weren't keeping up with updates or using security best practices.... but that is hardly the same thing as basing a dismissal on a software purchase.

  11. I think that if WoSign/StartCom made any meaningful moves toward rectifying the situation when it was first brought up, there wouldn't be an issue right now.

Everyone makes mistakes. All anyone is expecting is for the mistake to be acknowledged and corrected.

My understanding is that WoSign/StartCom basically ignored all efforts to get to an understanding and the yanking of trust is literally a last resort.

About the only good character (in my opinion) was Flox.

I lost interest in the series as soon as it started diving into the serialized war stories (temporal war).

I mean... it was ok... I just don't feel like it was Star Trek. You know, like utopian sandbox... granted, this is before we all started getting along... but that just means it isn't ST!

  14. >> I am pretty sure that Mozilla is widely considered to be the least secure of all the major web browsers.
    >Huh?! How so? I beg to differ...
I was referring to things I have heard on various podcasts. I also know that Firefox is behind the curve on some browser security techniques like sandboxing.
Also, Firefox was excluded earlier this year from the 2016 pwn2own competition on the grounds that it was "too easy" to find privilege escalations. Though, I have no idea if that is because of the rendering engine or what.

    I stand corrected

    >> Edge.... arguably it is a better browser than IE, but it is now also incompatible with everything that has gone before.
    >I'd second that it's much better than IE. It's also much more evolved. But it's not incompatible with *everything* that's gone before. That just isn't true.
You are right, I was making a sweeping statement there about Edge being incompatible with everything that has gone before.

What I was thinking specifically are group policies and extensions (add-ons). Which is quite a bit in a corporate environment.

  15. https://it.slashdot.org/story/...

AFAIK, Firefox only just recently introduced sandboxing in their general release, something which the other browsers have had for a while.

Honestly, this may just be a perception thing. I just know what I have heard from various people. I am not a security expert by any means.

New, of course, doesn't necessarily mean better or even more secure. But the world of web browsers is one area that has changed and continues to evolve rapidly. I can completely understand wanting to scrap it all and start over. That is what MS did with Edge.... arguably it is a better browser than IE, but it is now also incompatible with everything that has gone before.

I still love Mozilla and will continue to use it for its amazing extensibility but I can understand if more modern security practices are used to make a fresh engine.

There will be some pain involved, for sure. But I think that Mozilla is needed in this industry. I am not ready to give all my cookies to Google or MS.

    Exactly this.

Repubs or anyone else could do the same thing. It just happens to help Dems out more so they do it.

But advertising is an indirect form of vote manipulation. All candidates spend huge amounts of money on ads and tangible goods (buttons, flyers, etc) in order to try to influence people to vote a particular way. In effect trying to buy votes.

But we don't call that vote buying, we call that advertising.

Same thing if you give someone a ride and give your spiel. As long as you don't tell them they need to vote a particular way, then this is effectively just advertising.

  22. I am not sure why people hate Voyager so much.

I think it was really good Star Trek and I grew up watching TOS and remember when STTNG first came on the air.

As a matter of fact, Voyager is about tied with STTNG in my book for best Star Trek series. It has the highest number of good characters. Tuvok is, by far, my favorite ST character of all time. But Seven of Nine and B'Elanna are excellent as well.

I think Voyager was the last true Star Trek. After that it was all gritty "lens flare" Abrahms and serialized war stories.
