I see the point if Microsoft is money is behind this.
Windows mobile being what it is, it behooves MS to have as big of a mobile presence as possible. If that means piggy-backing on Android, I think the current mentality and MS HQ says, "do it!"
Sure, why not? Just keep all the info server side and use some kind of browser fingerprint (I hear battery state queries work) or marketing id to identify you...
It seems to me that this is something that all manufacturers do to some extent.
I would not be surprised at all if every single one sends a specially "optimized" car off to be tested and then turns around and ships the "non-optimized" variant.
Perhaps VW just loaded the "optimized" software in all cars either intentionally or by mistake.
Except that you can't recover data once it is stolen...
Being able to fix a problem is not the point.... any monkey can fix a hacked computer by wiping it and re-installing the OS. It is the data that is important...
But who could possibly act the part of Drizzt? After all, the guy was so dexterous that every move he made was "impossibly fast"....
Funny thing is, I seem to recall that the movie on this series almost happened at some point around 10 years ago... I think it got as far as casting before it was dropped.
It is all good YA stuff... but, you are right, very little of it would hold up to real scrutiny.
I LOVED R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt books when I was young... Homeland would make a great movie (I think it almost was at one point actually).
But anyway, I agree with the GP, there is already a vast pool of literature that already exists in the D&D world... and most of it would translate pretty well to the big screen.
In reality a hosted cloud is more expensive and less secure in almost all cases.
Well, in Microsoft's case, for about $45000/year/300 users (business premium tier 3 plan) you get quite a few services.
By the time you buy all the software licenses (with software assurance) and the hardware with the same amount of redundancy that the cloud offers (redundant high speed links, load balancers, etc), plus figure in staff or a consulting firm to set it all up and then maintain it (backups, updates, etc) you are looking at a much larger price tag than $45000/year.
And you still wouldn't have all of the features that you get when living in the cloud.
As for security... well, if you architect poor security from the start, you will have poor security. As in, if you are running your own servers... you really need to know what you are doing to make a secure system from the ground up. I will say that people with a much higher pay grade than me architected the cloud services I use. I tend to trust that they know what they are doing more than me.
All I am saying is not all IT managers can be stupid... And yet, across the board, moving to the cloud (especially Microsoft's cloud) is a pretty popular thing to be doing.
When I had a car, I always used turn signals, I would use them even when changing lanes (flip on turn signal to establish intent, check my blind spot, merge to the next lane slowly, flip off my turn signal).
But nobody ever uses them any more. Or if they do, they hit the turn signal as their hand passes by the signal lever as they turn the wheel, which is completely pointless.

Especially now with Surface and universal (Windows) apps.
Didn't MS put money into Cyanogen? Perhaps this is related to the MS "run everywhere" strategy.
I have never known Codeweavers to do anything altruistically so I am guessing there is money coming from somewhere for this feature.
Or people with duplicate names.
"That John Smith is a real asshole!"
But, hey, we are still in the top 1/3 out of ALL countries in the world...

Well, the summary does state "In a cybersecurity survey of 485 large colleges and universities"
Which would at least imply that their targets were all of a similar size...
Turkey Volume Guessing Man!
Here's the deal though... You watched all of these movies...
You will fall for it again... What are you going to do? NOT watch the movie? pfft...
Uni will undermine them every time....
They always do this though....
As a matter of fact, I have rarely seen a movie where the hero was already a level 20+ badass...
It always seems to start with the blossoming of their "powers" then a reluctant phase followed by a montage which results in a badass...
I admit it! I want to see those blindly fast scimitars!

The thing is, there is tons of stories already produced under the D&D franchise.
I grew up reading them... Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, Ravenloft, Dark Sun, etc.
The pool already exists, you just need one of the authors to come on board and there you go...

Why aren't other, non-human, animals entitled to live a good life?
... en-worsened firmware flashed onto it ...
en-worsening firmware is a perfectly cromulent thing to do.
I agree with this.
A cheap Android phone is unusable, whereas a cheap Windows phone is snappy and elegantly simple to use.
Yeah, I got a ZTE android device on an AT&T pre-paid plan at one point and the thing was basically unusable it was so underpowered.
That device now sits at my bedside and it's sole purpose is as an alarm clock.
Completely with you.
I have been using a Nokia 520 I got on Amazon last year for $35. It is a great phone and does everything I need it to.
Nice find on the BLU phone. That could very well be my next device!
That I never see Ada Lovelace's name alone.... It is always that she is some guy's daughter.
Don't her achievements allow her to stand alone in history?
Does she always have to be tied to some dude to give her legitimacy?
Yeah, the lack of turn signals always irks me.
When I had a car, I always used turn signals, I would use them even when changing lanes (flip on turn signal to establish intent, check my blind spot, merge to the next lane slowly, flip off my turn signal).

I am with you, my friend.
If they really want to know where my desktop is.... I guess it is no secret anyway... I mean I am using a public IP after all...
