Don't forget that most of the regulated industries today will screw things up if de-regulated. Think I'm wrong? Remember the savings and loan debacle in the early eighties? How about the fact that cable TV rates have trippled in the last ten years. Or that a company like US West (formerly Mountain Bell, now Quest) cut so many employees in there greed to increase profits that they got sued in 7 of the 11 states they served because it was taking over 60 days to get new service installed. How about El Paso Electric becoming the third electric company to go bankrupt since the depression?
There is a common denominator: greed. It overcomes education, good business practices, and common sense, every single time!
As a resident of NC I will be glad to see them go. We had several instances of ballot fraud last year and need a system that works. I know it will upset all the liberals on/. , but most of it was done by Democrats. Kind of like being in Chicago.
If every state that had a spyware law did this we could set an example when Sony goes bankrupt. Just make sure each state tries this individually, no overall class action. Separate trials are more expensive to defend. We want them to pay big time.
Amen. I was first exposed to Win XP RC about a month before it was released. The owner of the white box store put it on the box at his desk. Everyone fooled around with it for a half hour or so. then I got on and had a BSOD in 10 min. He claims it's my aura, Windows senses me the re and dies.
I have run several different versions of Linux since June 2000 and have yet to have a crash, and I have tried.
How can Win be efficient when you have to waste time re-booting after damn near every patch. The only time I reboot is for a new kernal.
Don't forget to add Aurora, Claria, ISearch, and WhenU to this list. These are companies whose "product" I remove daily. As a tech in a white box store I now spend over 80% of my time removing this crap. It would be nice to go back to fixing hardware problems and building new boxes.
Sony has really stepped on their dick with golf shoes this time. I can't wait to see thie quarterly report for this quarter. Profits will take a hit, we can just hope it's big enough to get their attention, they, like most big corporations, don't seem to car about bad press.
I disagree. They are still citizens of the U. S. and are covered by the First Amendment allowing free speech. One of these will get to the Supreme Court and free speech will win. As long as they are not advocating terrorist acts or making threats against the President they will win. Those two are not free speech but crimes, threats against the President have been a crime for a long time. At best you get "interviewed" by the Secret Service, at worst you spend many years as a guest of the Government in the crossbar hotel. It really boils down to: are you a "real" threat or do you just have diarrhea of the mouth. Since most students will be classified as the latter group the Supreme Court will side with them.
If you do a fresh install of Windows from 98SE through XP sp1 and then run Ad-Aware you will get between 9 and 13 instances of Alexa. You will get a few more when running Spybot afterwords. Alexa is Amazon.com's own personal spyware. I wonder who bribed M$ to include it? Why would anyone trust either one of them?
I now remove M$ Antispyware from every computer that comes through our shop it is a waste of space and resources. Ad-Aware and Spybot work better, run faster and use less memory. They are also on every computer that leaves our shop. Firefox is on every computer that has broadband or a non-third party dial-up(no AOHell, Earthlink or others that require IE) access.
I heard an interesting comment on the subject: Could God's time be different from our time? Probably.
On the overall subject if you read Genisis, it really doesn't say how creation was done, the message is why it was done.
Keeping in mind that the Old Testament was passed down by word of mouth for hundreds of years before it was written down, taking it literally is probably not a good idea.
It really needs to be accredited by the same board that does Universities. That way the courses will be accepted for Graduate school or taken seriously by employers. There is a legal action in Florida against a school that claimed their courses were acceptable for Grad school at any University, when the guy graduated no school would accept him, leaving him with a piece of emergency toilet paper and a large loan balance.
I grew up at a University where my Dad was a Professor. I have taken some online classes and many regular. The online were many of the 100 level classes that most don't attend anyway and had minimal requirements. I can't imagine doing System Analysis and Design online. That class is group projects from start to finish with presentations in front of the class. How else would you learn to present a project like that to a company board? IBM, Oracle, Red Hat, Novell, and even MS only send teams who know their stuff but also work well on teams and have experience presenting. Thats how they get the big contracts. Online doesn't teach that. Yes, most of those teams have programmers as members. My Prof for SA&D used to work on one of Oracle's migration teams.
Who cares about the rating? It's the truth. They bought their way out of the anti-trust suit, they are trying to buy their way out of the one in Europe. And in the end they get away with doing anything they want, whether it's business practices or with "your" information. Nothing has changed with them. Of course I'm starting to sell Linux boxes at the white box store I work in, so some people are getting smart.
That's what I did. Joined the BB and got the word out that way. Someone on that BB has to be in contact with them. Quite a few artists scan their BB's themselves to see what the fans think.
They are not just country, Lynyrd Skynyrd and 38 Special are rockin groups. They just did something country with this one.
That's not true! I've been married 22 years because I learned how to say "yes mam" a long damn time ago.
Wives don't have to twist your arm or yell, they just don't uncross their legs till they get their way. Money may make the world go round but pussy controls the money.
Why does anyone want to take things that work fine, like TV (cable or Sat) or Stereo and hook them up to something that has never worked right in history? A Windows PC. This just makes no sense at all, and I thought geeks used logic. A Tivo has always been a better choice, and it's much cheaper.
My boss (white box store) wanted to build one of these in Feb. and I through the same argument at him, we still don't have a media center PC in the showroom. The TV he bought is now upstairs in the weekend party room hooked to a Tivo.
Good Lord, someone commented on this that actually has a clue about sub ops!
Except on trials or to prove it works (quarterly tests), boomers (missle subs) never ever use active sonar, their job is to do the best imitation of a hole in the ocean that you never heard, and they are exceptionaly good at it. Fast attack boats might go active on a snap shot at a diesel electric that got in close. Surface ships on the other hand go around merrily pinging away, like they will actually find anything that way other than in training. In all exercises in the 70's our fast attack boats had a sound augmentor that played tapes of Russian boats through a 500 watt McIntosh tube amp. That was the only way skimmers ever found us. I will not say the same for P3 Orions with their MAD gear, thse things were scary. You can hear a skimmer pinging at around 80 miles, no sub will get caught with that kind of notice.
Back in the late 70's a fast attack would follow a Russian (sometime inside of 300 yards) for a week or more and tape every sound made. When we got done we would ping them once and tape the full power run that followed. Before the BQQ5 sonar system some skippers would give them a nudge, but you can't do that with a (at the time,$2 million) plastic dome which is the bow of the boat. A full power ping inside of 500 yards will just about make your ear drums switch sides. Of course it is very directional and not radiated in all directions unless desired.
Yes I was there, 1976 - 1980 USS Silversides SSN 679.
The internet came from research developed by the U.S. Department of Defence. DARPA wanted a way to connect it's research facilities and created a blend of computers and phone lines to do it. Then the technology was released to the public for everyones use. For all the anti-military liberals out there this is sad news, something good came from D.O.D. research.
There is everything to fear about UN control. They will screw it up like they have screwed up everything else they have touched. The UN is more bogged down in useless beaurocracy than any government and more corrupt than most.
Don't forget that most of the regulated industries today will screw things up if de-regulated. Think I'm wrong? Remember the savings and loan debacle in the early eighties? That would require that every State's AG actually have the balls to face off with big money Sony.
If every state that had a spyware law did this we could set an example when Sony goes bankrupt. Just make sure each state tries this individually, no overall class action. Separate trials are more expensive to defend. We want them to pay big time.

Thats why Ford stands for:

Found On Road Dead
Fucked On Race Day

A good lawyer (oxymoron) can turn it into a free speech case.It will happen.
I disagree. They are still citizens of the U. S. and are covered by the First Amendment allowing free speech. One of these will get to the Supreme Court and free speech will win. How SCO manages to continue to survive while blundering around like a thundering herd of dumbass?

My post was deleted and my sign up is now invalid. I just have an opinion, Sony has advertising dollars.

Don't worry, I already did.
I am very glad to hear about this. That CD WAS on my birthday list for next week.
Sony just lost a sale, end of story.
