with iTunes you can listen to 90 seconds of a track, which for most songs is more than half. this should be more than sufficient to "test before buying". So you'll need to make up another excuse for stealing stuff.

But I'll bite anyway, because this is slashdot. the functional test you propose is stupid. the dangers of drunk driving have nothing to do with how your eye vibrates or your nystagmus suppresses or whatever. Nobody's like, "oh nuts I hit that kid because my vestibular was reflexing." it's just another proxy for impairment. At least BAC is a proxy that can be understood and everybody agrees is related to alcohol intake.

a better question would be, how many people do you know or know of (politicians, celebrities, etc.) who have gotten DUIs? That's a better reflection of the extent of the problem.

Here's the real deal. Nobody cares about deaths from non-nuclear energy sources. there are two broad categories
1) employees, miners, etc who die in accidents or from mine cancer. The public perception is that it's their own choice
2) people who die from pollution. There's no way to attribute the pollution death to a single source, so you can't pin it on coal, lets say.
ANY nuclear problem either relates to bombs or power plants. So of course people don't like power plants. Did I fix your brain on this matter?
