This TV series was one of my favorites for the few weeks it was on. Hot of the trail of War Games, it was about 4 teenage kids and computers. One (Ritchie) had a HUGE computer which as best as one could tell was basically anything electronic all linked together.

Ritchie was the main whiz kid who, no matter where he was, find a computer that was linked into just about anything. I believe in one episode they were put into a closet to prevent them from spoiling something (Those meddeling kids) and TADA there was a terminal that controled everything in the building.

You have to love these two.

When I was using 386BSD in 91? (why not - I'd heard of BSD Unix, but not this Linux thing), Bill and Lynne would post to the 386bsd newsgroup.

If someone was criticizing 386BSD to strongly, or unfairly, or a response to something bordering on flame was needed, they would sometimes both have a response there.

Lynne was VERY straight-forward in her responses - along the lines of to hell with you, you stupid moron. (Not that she said things like that, but you always knew where you stood).

Bill was a little more verbose in subtle, in that when he got done insulting you and telling you to piss off, you may even think you have been complimented and should say thank you.

I really wish I still had some of the threads that illustrated this - it was a great fun to watch.

Good lord...I don't know how many times I've gone to Sears, Best Buy, CompUSA, Circuit City, etc... to buy something and find that they are out of stock on that item - perpetually.

I bought my $1299 video camera from a small store in Ohio that I'll probably never see. Not because of sales tax, but because I could not find it at a local store, so I went and found the lowest price.

I buy DVD's at Amazon because I can "buy" a DVD months in advance at a LOW price and get it at my house when it does come out. (And until they closed the distribution center across town, I usually got it the day it was released in the stores.) That and it is "in stock" whereas going to a local store is a nightmare - sure, they have 500 copies of Stuart Little, but the only copy of Vampire Hunter D (assuming they ordered one) is gone.

At no time does the server care what you (the client) says the price is. You return item #1 for a $100 refund.

Modify the local page all you want, all it tells the server is that they want item #1 and item #2, not how much item #1 and #2 costs.

Even if the end user changed the info, it won't affect a thing.
