" Well, that's what you get for not researching properly before buying things."
Speaking of proper research...
I hope to dear god nobody reads the +5 parent comment and buys a socket 940 mobo for their FX. They are a 939 part that is multiplier unlocked (no ceiling lock like other A64s) and despite what the parent says, they are currently the best desktop CPU money can buy for gaming.
"refresh" = same GPU with faster clocked memory or something along those lines.
If you believe any of the rumors then Nvidia is waiting for ATI to announce their R520 before they unleash their own "ultra" 7800 model or whatever they end up calling it.
I wouldn't be suprised at all if this were true considering the conservative memory clockings on the GTX. GTX also only has 256MBs RAM on board and you gotta figure theres a 512 meg part waiting in the wings somewhere.
The R520 is going to be insanely expensive, just like the 7800GTX. These are bleeding edge enthusiast level cards not really intended for the mass market. The nutjobs aka early adopters spend $600+ USD to get the latest and greatest vid card and then a year later everyone else gets the same technology for $150.
These simple words will work wonders: "No spoilers please, I haven't seen that one yet". Then change the subject.
As for the "magical" social aspect you describe, how social is sitting in a dark room and staring at a screen? If it's the social interaction that you crave, then do something that actually _en_courages interaction, not discourages it.
Go out dancing, toss a frisbee around at the park, hell break out a deck of cards and play some poker. These are activities with "magical" social interaction.
When 2 tickets cost more than the DVD it becomes a no brainer. The only time I ever go to a theatre anymore is for a movie I *REALLY* don't want to wait for. An example of this would be the LOTR movies. 99% of everything else I have no problem waiting for the DVD release and watching them then.
I bought a Panasonic toughbook W2 and I've absolutely fallen in love with the touchpad.
It differs from your average touchpad in that it's a circle and you can scroll by rotating your finger around the outer edge (think of an ipod volume control mechanism). Since it's a circle you can scroll endlessly without having to lift and reseat your finger like you would have to with other touchpads or with a mouse wheel.
I wouldn't use it for gaming by for scrolling through documents, webpages, etc its fantastic.
Yes they are on their way out but it's going to be quite some time so don't hold your breath. LCD, plasma, DLP technology has all made leaps and bounds over the past couple years. It's just a matter of time.
Fortunately where I am from laws are made by the government, not by Sega. Here we are legally allowed to maintain backup images of software that we own so ROMs are perfectly legal so long as you own the actual cart/CD/etc. This is not open to individual interpretation, this is simply the law as it stands here right now. Now I don't know where you are from so YMMV.
This is kind of what I was alluding to when I said multichannel is inheirently more difficult and time consuming.
Maybe I should have added on "to do well" on the end of that but it was somewhat implied.
Most of the current DVD-A and SACD offerings are pretty poorly done right now, so my question to soupdevil is if it's so much easier than stereo then how come hardly sound engineers seem to be able to pull it off?
" This multiple format business is a mess. Look at the problems with SACD and DVD-A. Nobody is buying them"
The fact that nobody is buying them is not just because there are 2 different formats. There are good inexpensive players out there that can handle both formats no problem. There just isn't that much of a demand for them currently and multichannel audio is inheirently more difficult and time consuming to record/mix/etc.
"So what was Nintendo supposed to show? Some freaky , wacky, OMFG graphics. NO, once again, you're not listening. "It's not about the graphics anymore (Nintendo)"."
Then what is it about? Nintendo sure as hell didn't answer this question (yet anyhow).
I was looking forward to some announcement from the big N that would take console gaming into entirely new territory. I have yet to hear it. Playing old games? Please. Where is the "revolution"? I was expecting nintendo to pull some ace out of their sleeve and say "AHA! sony and MS have it all wrong, this is the true future of gaming!".
Based on the information available, if all 3 systems were to come out tomorrow I would buy a PS3 and and Xbox360 but not a revolution.
I genuinely hope nintendo suprises everyone and drops some big bombshell on us not in terms of terraflops or blueray or wireless but in terms of gaming innovation. I'm as tired of the same old gaming shit as anyone else but it's going to take a little more than a library of old games to pique my interest.
Take a look at the software library for PS2, Xbox, and GC.
If anyone should be worried about third party software support it's nintendo not sony or MS. There is only so far metroid and mario kart will carry you.
Ewwwww AM/FM. No thanks.
The only way I want "radio" and "ipod" in the same sentence is if they are accompanied by the word "sattelite".
Don't be a player hater... it doesn't suit you. :x
Oh I agree with you... it's certainly out of my league.
;)
Maybe if I win the lottery some day.

You're a fucking imbecile. Do mankind a favor and never post on any hardware related topics again. You are an embarassment to your species.
OHHHHHHHHHHHHH MAN $449 YOU SURE SHOWED ME!
Oh wait no, it's just hyperbole and you're too fucking dense to pick up on it.
Because it's not a refresh?
It's a completely new GPU.
"refresh" = same GPU with faster clocked memory or something along those lines.

I say this as one of the aforementioned nutjobs.

Are you an overclocker?
Based on your comment I would have to say no.
The supply of new TCCD chips is of great interest to anyone in the OC community.

...nobody likes a fanboy.
It might be the greatest thing since sliced bread but at some point you just have to stfu about it and allow people to draw their own conclusions.

They are both beavers, the male one is just more brightly colored in order to attract mates while the female is a drab brown color.
So do your testicles.

Explain to me why it's easier.
You ever hear of a "golden ear"?
I think Ray Charles (among many others) would have disagreed with you.

"And if Iwata is to believed, the best part is yet to be revealed."
;)
I hope you're right.
I never said "old games suck".
I have played all the classics inside and out already and I don't have a lot of interest in going back and playing them again.
Similarly, I don't watch the same movie over and over again no matter how much may I like it. Been there, done that, want to try something new.
SMB3 is one of the greatest console games ever made yet I can't say I have any sort of urge to play it.
