Why doesn't Uber answer that question?
It's not a taxi company. You take away the app, they own nothing. Cars are not theirs, the taxi drivers are not theirs to fire since they are already taxi drivers with their own cars, or would-be taxi drivers just looking for a quick buck.
Then again, if they ARE indeed a taxi company, then they should pay a license like anyone else who wants to run a taxi service has to.
I prefer a traditional cab. I would much rather support a traditional cab service then these guys who came storming on to the scene pissing off a whole load of people.
Uber hired no end of "top notch" university people. Seems like they didn't bring much to the arena if Uber are continually in and out of courts, and being banned. Perhaps if they had looked at whose toes they would be treading on first, they might have gotten off to a better start.
Uber and what they do or don't do = YAWN
There is no difference between what the Romans did and what trophy hunters/killers and poachers do today. Whether it's fox hunting, cock fighting, bull fighting, rhino poaching or simply killing animals because "it's fun".
All humans are inhuman deep down. It's just that we have learned to be compassionate, and we bury our innate desire to be cruel.
Trust yellow, white or black. Better with a big f-ing sign on the top that says TAXI.
After all this time, they continue to be in the news for ALL the wrong reasons. So for me it's a traditional cab service.
Thanks Uber, but no thanks!
Title says it all. Good riddance to Google+. Gmail, too. They made it so difficult to use on Android that really I have given up even trying to make sense of it.
How did terrorists communicate 50 years ago? Pen and paper? Morse code? The phone? You can shut down the internet and plunge everyone in to the 70's again, but it won't stop the terrorists.
Where there is a will, there is a way. Allah said so....
Perhaps a nice canister of pepper spray in your handbag would be more appropriate. Oh wait mr taxi driver whilst i find my panic button in this Uber app that called me a taxi owned by a criminal.
TAKE OFFICIAL TAXIS PEOPLE. I would say catch the BUS, but in Indian bus drivers seem to be rapists as well.
What are people doing with all this HW in the homes? Where are they putting it? In the garage? Me, well I have my good ol Mac and a couple of laptops running Windows, Linux, VMware.
Traditional client to server technology NoMachine NX so when I am not at home I can still get access to what I need such as checking that my kids have done their homework, and aren't playing games on the computer.
In the past I tried to achieve similar functionality via cron jobs, login scripts, ssh and nx management
NX? But you are using x2go? THAT is not NX. Contact the experts I.E NoMachine http://nomachine.com/. Only the real authors of probably the most amazing remote access and management tool can you help you there.
If anyone wants to predict what technology we will be using, would have been using and have been using, then all you need to do is watch the original Captain Kirk series.
All of the gadgets and tech used are more or less what we have adopted and are adopting. From the cell phone to the 3d laser printer.
Listen to Gene Roddenberry, not Gartner
An enterprise solution like Citrix is hardly a solution for a home user. We've been using NoMachine for the past six months and now they've released their Android app, my wife and I are well chuffed for sharing files and doing remote work (we are both architects)
Moving away from the Linux world was the only option for them since all the Linux world could do was get narked because they never opened up the code completely to the community. This gave rise to all the forked versions which in return could only cause further dismantled usage of a top quality product. It is the likes of the so-called Enterprise which have probably allowed them to survive and keep going. The best thing they ever did was to remove their NX Free Edition in to the Enterprise section as a pay-for product: the Workstation. Their new DESKTOP SHARING product is free for everyone, whether communist zealot or serious businessman.
The bad news is not that they're moving away from Linux. They can't be since it's the companies running Linux servers that pay their wage. They've probably woken up to the fact that Linux is not going anywhere that it promised to go. The fact they added support for Windows and Mac is a warning to all of those occupying the market so far. If I were Logmein or Teamviewer, I would be downloading their software to see what it is they are doing better.
Whether it sounds trollish or not, (I would say that it was intentional), the point is that so many projects give their hard work to the community who take, and then take and continue to take, and give nothing in return other than the malicious and evil comments (not all) that you can find on this page.
All the forks that the readers mention herein exist thanks to the developers behind NoMachine NX. Neatx would not exist without NoMachine, likewise all those other projects that continue to take the NX compression libraries and even complain that certain things don't work, or don't work well. If they don't work, or don't work well, why don't they just fix it themselves?
What a shame it is that all these forks do exist now, only to disappear later. And they will because they don't have anyone holding their hand.
Instead of all just sitting there wondering why they are closing the source, and wondering what you can use in its place, just download and try it. They have obviously closed the source because they got fed up with "the community" taking a technology for free without giving a shit back.
They have no doubt got some tricks up their sleeves, and who said no one uses it? It is clear you don't read much, you just sit there and drink your free beer. Who cares about forks, it's nomachine that's holding the knife by its handle.

This article so well written (in Italian, so use google translator) just about sums up what Uber really is http://www.huffingtonpost.it/g...
Noooo, it was Uber, as it whizzes into space to bring on board aliens among its taxi drivers

Nomachine offers better performance than logmein, and also Teamviewer.
Expensive failed projects!!
Quite agree. Android update: NoMachine have just released their Android app. In beta, and iOS is coming soon.
Only works on tablets though, not smartphones
