OK, admittedly that was a bad example. But if this guy's story is true, and he was told to break this particular law to "fit in" with this particular group of criminals...well, certainly we can see the parallels. Maybe a better example is the "speeding to catch a speeder" that another poster hit upon, since it's obvious that drugs laws are a bit of a hot button issue:)
Seems like government agents breaking laws like these (theft and fraud) should be subject to harsher penalties. Something's seriously wrong if they get lighter ones.
So, you're saying that narcs should get jail time for buying illegal drugs, in order to catch dealers "in the act"?
Reminds me of my days as a NetWare admin. For those that might not know, NetWare servers use DOS to bootstrap, then run a program called "server.exe" to launch the server OS.
I was applying a service pack to a NW6 server, and part of that SP was an updated "server.exe". Well, MacAfee decided that "server.exe" was a virus and just silently deleted it after it was extracted, without even telling me. Killed two servers before I figured out what was going on.
And yes, I know that MacAfee AV is TRWTF...but it was what the school system had standardized on at the time.
And the current government is proposing to change exactly that: I don't think any party of any hue is in favour of encouraging deliberate sloth and recklessness...

Yes, and the population is acting like a bunch of 2 year olds that have had their binkies taken away.
Many times if you call the vendor for hardware support, they pretty much insist that you be running the factory image. If you've wiped Win7 off and installed Debian/Ubuntu/Slackware/[insert-distro-of-choice-here] I've had people pretty much refuse to generate an RMA even for obviously faulty hardware.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Apple randomly take snapshots of all the data on their iThings for bug tracking/troubleshooting purposes? If so then that right there should disqualify them.
No they had to recompile the kernel with the --WORK_NOW_DAMN_YOU flag enabled, but not until after they had downloaded the latest kernel source and repackaged it for their current distribution-of-the-month. After working out all the dependencies, and *their* dependencies, of course.
Typical M.O. for this group of lowlife scumbags. It would be one thing if only their customers got fleeced, but they manage to pass the bill unto the taxpayer.
There is a special place in hell for these SOBs.
Right next to the child molesters, and people who talk at the theater?
It's not *always* about address space conservation.
...the FBI is held accountable for the loss in wages / productivity and the expense of replacing the destroyed vehicles.
Let us know how that works out for you.
Or Google...
Eve Online...single shard, single universe... MS SQL server.
Not to mention they'd immediately pull all our tech support and offshored coders, and *then* where would we be?
Wow, someone in academia has invented another "right". I for one am shocked.

"Email Privacy" does not exist.
Obviously, to grow magnetic birds with...duh...
Zing indeed. I haven't seen any major source deride the war in Libya until now.

They don't because, in their eyes, a foreign-backed foreign power is usurping what used to be their land.
Key words are in bold.

It's called "Social Security".

Oh, God, we wouldn't want to worry the *bloggers*, now would we?
Freedom of speech also implies dealing with the consequences of said free speech.
And AG Holder's reply:
"Why did we seize them? Because SHUT UP, that's why!"

Everyone knows all good astronauts are from Ohio.
MP3 players.
Dude, nowhere in that snippet does it mention Microsoft products being used in their design. Nice try, though.
