I might be taking this wrong, but it looks like this architecture might bridge the gap between console gaming and PC gaming. Its like the in-between. With all the audio and video integration, it looks like a nerd-souped-up-super-gaming-setup.
Deus Ex used a technology that maps voice patterns to lip movement. Sure it isn't perfect, but its closer than lip syncing. This may be a most cost effective way for square to proceed...
After all my comments about the Illuminati, its about time I tell everyone who they really are...BTW - this will be my last post, for I'm sure they'll come after me for releasing the truth...
The illuminati is.... Disney, AOLTW, and M$. They've been working together for a long, long time, but are slowly becoming a force that the world will see, but by the time everyone realizes it, it will be too late. They will control everything (they already control everything, but when they are one company, you won't be able to live without their products and support).
Echelon isn't very powerful. That's what the government uses now that the illuminati granted them the ability to view it. Right now, though, the illuminati uses "Daedalus" which analyzes all data that travels through every type of wire known to man.
You think the wires in your house (even the electricity) go straight to plants without being tapped? The illuminati have your house completely tapped through every wire you own. The only escape is to be a hermit out in the middle of no-where. (see sig)
Warning! If you work with secure data on a computer, and there is a wire spliced onto your keyboard wire in an unusual way and the wire goes into a hidden corridor, out the window, or far from site, someone might be sniffing your data!!
Lets not attack the developers, but the publisher. This is one of the reasons Richard Gariott left origin. EA forced them to release a product that obviously wasn't ready. Richard knew it, Richard explained it to the bigwigs at EA, EA wanted it released, so they had to release it. EA should be chastized, but not Origin.
What the gaming industry needs is more reviews like the above.
You aren't reviewing the game, your reviewing the bad status of the game. You didn't get it to work, so its a bad game?
No, the game needs more work and patches, which sucks, but the game still could be wonderful. I will use Ultima9 as an example. When it was released, it blew and was incomplete, but after the last patch was installed, the game was outstanding.
In the end, lets not criticize the game, lets find out why it is bad and criticize that (was the publisher forcing the developer to release before it was ready? Did the developer fail to use a good QA strategy?). The developer might not be the reason the game failed, so quit trying to start a crusade before you know the enemy.
Funny,
weren't we just reading the obituary of Linux on the desktop?
I also found this amusing. And if you read the comments about the death of the Linux Desktop, all the die-hard linux users agreed with it. And now we have the die-hard linux users praising Agenda for using X.
And now I figured it out:
Its the "Lemming Syndrome." Its not whether the article good or bad about Linux, but, instead, whether the author is a Linux advocate (or well known in the Linux world) or not. Look, a Linux World author says that the Linux desktop is dead. And like a pack of lemmings (or the pied piper, whichever you prefer) you follow the crowd and admit to its faults. Now a Linux Developer explains how the advantages of the desktop, and everyone is back believing the Linux desktop will dominate the desktop market.
Now, on the contrary, if someone at MS was to claim the Linux desktop was dead, everyone would definately point out everything Linux does better than Windows and the few that would state some of Window's advantages would be modded down as trolls (probably like this post will be).
No need to flame me, I know what you'll say. Just think about it, please...
I was asked to watch some pilots for drama shows for CBS. You know what I spent an entire saturday watching? Either spinoffs of popular shows, or copies of popular shows. It blew chunks. I wrote all over my reviews "BE ORIGINAL. Nobody wants a copy of what they like, they want something new."
Of course, my opinion mattered little, because the new dramas coming out this fall are just copies of popular dramas on TV. And they will be replacing the copies/spinoffs of popular shows that just got cancelled (the tick may be a good exception, though).
That's what sucks about publishers for media. They want copies of what sells. That is why the video game shelves are full of FPS that are the same-old. No one is willing to take a chance on something new, unless you are proven in the field (i.e.: Warren Spector aka God).
Think about this:
If you could walk around in the world anonymously. No one would know who you were and couldn't trace you. How much would crime increase?
I use this as a strong point. Of course, things as bad as rape and murder (and tax evaison!) wouldn't happen over the net, but when people are forced to tell who they are, even if no one would know who they were, they tend to be cautious and safer. It isn't big-brotherism, because they aren't watching you every second, they are just forcing you to show your face when you do something naughty.
Imagine having the name of someone who just sent you that pron spam, or the name of the 43 year old man that is chatting with your 14 year old daughter.... it isn't all that bad, is it??
The Bad:
Pay for the movie is paying the MPAA.
The Good:
Linux
This is/., so Linux overrules MPAA, and pretty much anthing else (i.e. : Most people here would buy a pile of crap if they thought Linux was installed on it).
Not flamebait, just making a point (lewdly);-)
Actually, my company has a daily drill.
Someone codes something good and shouts something like 1 4M S000 13373 D00DZ!!11 (or something else in 13373 speak), then we beat the ever living crap outta them.
I'd like to see a script kiddie pop their head up in my company.
BTW - This article sounds like a preface to a new BOFH.
Now that they have the quantum computer that
can crack all all communications, and the quantum disk drives that they use to
store every packet ever, they already know your underwear size, to say nothing of a complete copy of
your DNA for their cloning efforts
The government doesn't have a quantum computer, the Illuminati do. But since the Illuminati control the government, they just eliminated the middle man in this article.
The difference between this and the andrema is that it is backed by a company with serious cash. Which means the project could stay fully financed the entire way.
But on the other hand... Nokia has a board of directors that can pull the plug at any given moment.
Its hard for a small-time company to break into the console industry, but Sony proved that a big corporation with a nice financial situation can do it (on the other hand, Sega proved that even a vet can loose in the industry).
Good luck to nokia, and grab as many developers to make games as possible!
...First Knight. Its a decent story, but they attached Arthurian legend to it to desecrate "Morte d'Arthur".
I wasn't going to see this, and everyone has convinced me not to even look in the direction of the theater...
Hopefully, Pearl Harbor is as good as everyone is trying to make it... or I'll have to wait for Lord of the Rings...
The biggest problem I forsee is the astronauts psycology. It'll be, basically, a 9 month trip in something a little less comfortable than a school bus:
Probably not as much room as a school bus.
And seeing the same people, in close proximity, every morning/afternoon/evening/night for the next 9 months with very little privacy.
The constant horror that a small accident means instant death every single day.
Plus the trip to Mars is long, drawn out, and boring (not exactly sure how long it'll take. Like 2-months?) then the commander will need to be completely focused to land. Mir had a cosmonaut that was up for several weeks and couldn't dock an unmanned satelite to Mir (the cause was most likely that he was just bored for so long he lost his focus)
They'll need to stock up on coffee and try not to kill themselves, or let the environment get to them. Easy task, right? I think not!
From CT's article, it sounds like it was a big clean up of code, but will this new/. with the new slashcode look much different? /. has needed a facelift for a long time, IMHO.
Since the site is, ironically,/.'ed inquiring minds want to know about the changes. Especially about moderation and karma changes (did ya remove the cap??).
What about in the real world where coding is always done in groups???
I'll get flamed for this, because most/. readers are excellent coders and most of their peers were successful only because they were in the/.'er's group. But, to be quite frank, this is what it usually is like in big software companies.
Fret not, because the good coders are often recognised rather quickly, and are the first to be promoted. Then when you are the boss you can sack the people you know that don't put enough into the group.
And the degree only "really" matters for your first three jobs, then its all experience. So the bad coders won't be progressing up unless they change their ways...
So you will get your revenge, it'll just take some time.
I forgot to mention:
This encryption works the best with credit card numbers.
Assign a number to each letter of the alphabet in order. A=1, B=2, C=3, etc...
Write your messages all in numbers. Snoops will think its something complex, cause lets face it, no one would ever do encryption that simple...

Am I the only one that sees the abbreviation for the Near Earth Asteroid Tracking Observatory is NEATO?
I bet they did that on purpose, those crazy astronomers!

What happened when the US sent a civilian in space?
One word: Challenger
It may not seem like a problem now-a-days, but those that were responsible still are extracautious...
Don't worry, I still backup onto punchcards, just in case...
