Most content that you pay for you can get free somewhere else.
It may not necessarily be legal, but why pay for something you can get for free.
This is especially true for information. There are too many places to get info for free to ever pay for it. Why would I buy an encyclopedia when I can search on google for free? Why pay for a pr0n site when you can zip through the newsgroups for free?
But this also rises a question: How can content be proven true? Free information carries the question on its authentication. Is it true fact, or not? Paid content also asks the question, but you usually pay for true content. But I digress...
How do you plan on competing on the linux platform with open source projects?
Basically, why would I buy Kapital if I can use GnuCash for free? And if it doesn't do everything I want, its opensource and I can add it. It seems like a very stiff competition. How is your company planning on attacking it?
Use "MUD Shell". It was a slashdot quickie I believe. To move a file, you pick it up, navigate through the directory, and then drop it. Its quite an amusing shell. However, since I'm extremely lazy, I can't provide a link, but just search the/. stories for it, and you'll find it.
This is off topic??

10) Illuminati & Mafia (+5, funny)
by FortKnox
I heard that GnuCash is the Accounting program of choice for the Mafia and Illuminati (the whole
Trilateral Commission, I believe). My question is: Do you plan on adding features for efficent money
laundering to help your best customers?
Robert: /me checks over his shoulder to make sure no-one's looking
Well, actually, the true world conspiracy is cricket. The Mafia and Illuminati are really just small
pieces in the plan - as is Linux. While big US corporations attempt to lock up American sports in
pay-per-view and sponsorship deals, we're steadily working on open-source server and streaming
media solutions, which we'll spread far and wide . . . and all that will be left to broadcast is . . . cricket.
We'll make ourselves incredibly rich selling cheap-n-nasty sports memorabilia to every sports bar in
America (cricket has such long periods between any action, it's perfect for lots of advertising slots), as
well as online betting with reputable subcontinental and middle eastern bookmakers - and that's
where GnuCash fits in . . .
oh wait, there's a bunch of guys in suits and sunglasses at the door, oh, f*&Y*&, help me please,
they're dragging me away from the keyb67*

Whoa... don't get me wrong, dude. I play all the PC games (specially Sid Meier and God aka Warren Spector), but in the console market (which I explicitly stated), there are tons of good games made by Japanese companies.
True, they haven't competed well in the PC market. In fact, they hardly touched the PC market. There is a good explanation, though. Financially, look at how PC Games rank compaired to console games in net income. Console games are a lot more profitable than PC games. X-Box may change this a bit, also, by allowing easy porting of PC Games. Then, maybe, we'll see some Japanese contribution to the PC Gaming world...

Japan still makes the best games:
Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, ZeroWing (all your base... game). Honestly, if you play games that originated in Japan, they are incredibly creative and top notch (not to mention fun).
These are also console games, not PC games, which is probably the reason...

Its a conspiracy!
Slashdot went down saturday because of lack of funds. Compaq got them back up with cash, with the condition that they said it was a hardware issue, but everyday they need to mention Compaq at least 3 times in a positive manner.
You laugh now, but when Taco mentions how all the servers are switching to Compaq machines, we'll see who gets the last laugh!!!
OK, I know the article says that Compaq is getting outta the desktop market, but it kills the whole story!
Go to Toms Hardware and look at the chip benchmarks.
They never benchmark the AMD with the same speed intel. For example, the AMD 1.2GHz is usually benchmarked against the 1.6GHz Intel. Just because the chip is marketted at a speed doesn't mean its equivalent to its competitors speed.
Is this a desperate attempt to stay in competition with AMD? To speak bluntly, Intel hasn't released a stable chip since the P3. They keep releasing really fast chips just to keep the pace with AMD. But with the recalls of the P4, I think the chip buying community is ready to put their faith in AMD.
I think the brightest move for Intel would be to dump the P4, and just update the technologies on the alpha... The alpha isn't anywhere near the end of its cycle...

Cricket? But no one gets brutally beaten all to hell like in rugby!
Seriously, though, how do you think GnuCash really compares to Money and Quicken? How would you try and convert the Windoze fans away from those major programs?
Say Djibouti had kiddie porn sites. The US could cut any internet access to that country, and tell other countrys (lets say england), that we will cut all english internet connections to the US unless england cut its connections to Djibouti. Thereby removing Djibouti from the internet itself. Wow, it almost seems inevitable that there will be a world government, or at least world law on the internet. This must be how the Illuminati is going to attempt control of the world...
How many UNIX system admins are there in the world? What is their pay range?
How many Windows system admins are there in the world? What is their pay range?
Lets face it, my 16 year old sister can learn to be a windows admin from one of those tech schools that'll make you certified in 3 months. And you can pay 5 of those newbie admins for the price of one unix admin.
Its not that I enjoy these numbers. Honestly, I think if you want to run a windows server, you'll need the extra admins to take care of the additional crashes and glitches, so it isn't cost efficient. But John Q. Manager doesn't know that. Such is life.
...isn't to be undetectable by radar... its to be undetectable, period.
If you figure out a way to detect the plane, the military will just develop a new way to be undetectable by your new methods. It doesn't mean we shouldn't make new stealth planes, it means we just need to do a little more research.
Stuff like this just makes for new technology. Don't knock it.
Sit them all in front of a linux prompt (no X, just a prompt).
After about 30 minutes of them staring at the screen, yell something like "Well? Do something!"
Honestly, I'd take apart a computer in front of them and show them the parts, and use good analogies to explain how everything works. Watch "The Magic Schoolbus" when they dealt with computers. They had some good analogies.
Imagine the ability to write a perl script to filter out the phone spam....
That would make it a dream appliance.

I KNEW IT ALL ALONG!
The illuminati & mafia are teamming up for "project cricket"!
Now all we need to do is get sexy women to play cricket in tiny bikini's & thongs.....

The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners.
Actually, Microsoft makes some pretty good joysticks. I really like my sidewinder pro. Works great with Descent 3.

I'll agree. M$ is taking a big big risk. They are trying to eliminate the FSF by putting themselves in great risk of killing themselves.
Microsoft can't die, though!!!! They make the best joysticks....

2 words:
Starcraft Broodwars.
I have more fun playing with a team of 2 humans vs 5 AI's. The AI in that game just rocks.
...is if there is a major breakthrough in quantum computing this year.
That's the joy of the computer industry:
a few years in the future, you could be using completely different technology.
Hmm... I wonder to what extreme the US would go.
