    Gaming will never die.
    Consoles, may.... kinda
    Consoles are getting better and better. Faster, better graphics. But it will hit a point where the Console becomes the computer. They will both have the same features, and basically be the same machine as your desktop. Once this happens, consoles and computers will merge into one.
    Its bound to happen.

    How 'fast' does our brain work? Can we generalize the synaptic process into a 'Hertz' unit of speed? Can this thing 'think' faster than a human brain? Would it be simpler to tie it right into our lobe than to use something primitive like a keyboard and mouse? Obviously the technology to do so isn't here, yet, but its kinda like sci-fi coming to life...

    It works because workers surf/pr0n/slack less. If your boss could just move his eyes over and see you were reading slashdot when it was crunch-time, you'd be in big trouble, hence you work more instead of surfing. Not to mention the people that look at pr0n behind their closed office doors.
    Ours is a generation that likes to surf and take lots of 'mini-breaks' when we are working by ourselves.
    Having your boss sitting with you constantly changes the workhabits to create better productivity.
    I'm not saying everyone does it, but I'm sure you have people at your office doing it, and 'war-rooms' would make them more productive...

    Ever read the book "Animal Farm". The animals on a farm revolt against their farmer to become free, and once they win, they find out their animal leaders have become the tyrant that the farmer was.
    This is kinda what's happening with fandom. Its become what it hates. Such things happen in this free environment...

    ... and it is Testing! Instead of making deadlines and release dates right before testing, they should be made 15/16th the way through testing. Software is not -nearly- tested well enough. Any QA department will tell you they are always strapped for time. Testing should last longer than the development of the software. Software companies should test like there is no possibility for a patch.

    The american dream is a 'dream' because it is so incredibly difficult to attain. We live in a capital economy which eventually is dominated by super-large corporations. When you start a small company, you are swimming with sharks, and if they sense that you -may- become a threat, you are bought or eliminated. Simple as that. Its the economy we live in.

    TiVo runs linux also.
    It started off as that.
    Now there are lots of hacks that improve the TiVo (bigger harddrives, etc...). Figuring out that something runs Linux means that it can and will be hacked, mostly to improve the item.
    I agree with you, though, that a toaster running linux is pointless, and that /. freaks out when something runs linux, but sometimes it is worth it...

    Who says we can't have DNS over wireless? And most people use electronic phone books and speed dialing. IP's would be the extreme background number, and we would have shortcuts to avoid typing in all the numbers...

    Since Wireless will eventually take over the phone industry, why not fix the wireless to work with IP's, and leave local phones alone. That way the change happens gradually and is more accepted, because younger people are more likely to accept the change than people on social security.

    I think it has to do with the person's grip of reality. If they can't define between fantasy and real life, and play quake, or go game shooting, or go skeet shooting, etc... they are prime for an accidental, or purposeful shooting. People who play games for fun or stress relief aren't going to cause any problem in their life, unless it is an obsession.

    I disagree. Someone can play video games the same amount of time as a person who is "socially balanced" watches TV, and be "socially balanced". Just because some gamers are seriously imbalanced socially doesn't mean you can generalize that all gamers are socially imbalanced. Its like saying all nerds wear pocket protectors. Its just a serious over-generalization.

    But in Japan you not only have a language barrier, but an alphabet barrier, and a reading and writing barrier (Japanese isn't read the same way english is). That would make it very difficult, unless you want to get schooled up in the language over a few years.

    What is it about FreeBSD that makes it more desirable over all other forms of *NIX? I'm a Linux user and haven't been convinced on why to switch to FreeBSD. What do you think are the advantages of your project over other OS's?

    Learn your automata and formal languages! Here's a very general idea of a turing machine. A turing machine is essentially a machine that reads from a tape. It can read from one point, and go either forward or backward one step on that tape. I can't recall if there is any memory or not. I don't think it has any memory...
    Its an advanced form of state automata developed by Alan Turing years before the computer was even thought up.
