I agree, and, because of this, this story has about as much business being on slashdot as WWF Smackdown.
Are you really that desparate for new material Jon?
Lets get on to the real geek stuff!

How would this asteroid affect the moon?
Would it pull it away from us?
Would it pull it on a collision course with us?
Either way, it makes a major impact on earth.
Lets see...
Asteroid hitting the earth,
Another Ice Age,
Global Warming,
Economic Recession/Depression,
"Grey Ooze",
World War,
etc...
These will all likely happen within a million years, and there are scientists worrying about stuff that will happen in a billion years?
My guess is, they'll all give themselves a coronary worrying about this stuff in about 2 years.
I also disagree. Nintendo's audience is kids (like 2years old to like 15yo). Sony's audience is to the older teenagers and adults. Considering most kids want (and get) a console, I suspect Nintendo will last an extremely long time. Another point was said before, which is the franchise games they have (can't wait to play metroid again!!!). Now that the N-Cube is going CD instead of cartridge, the price for games will drop. Nintendo may never be 'top' system over Sony and Microsoft (Microsoft seems to be catering to the older audience, also), but they will always be there...
Since this rumor is true, that means that Sega will be making PS2, N-Cube, and XBox games, not to mention that Sony, Nintendo, AND Microsoft will ALL buy Sega and dump all the ET Dreamcast games into a landfill in New Mexico! Then Tribes2, Warcraft3, and Black'n'White will all be released simultaneously... TOMORROW! Hurry and buy yourself a copy first thing tomorrow morning. And then the next day Microsoft will be releasing its Bug-free versions of Win2k, and WinME, and Linux will fall in shame!
Nothing like having one little rumor come true to start some gossip:-)
Not only will this result in smaller, cooler chips, but these processors will be made with copper, rather than aluminum, wires. Because they conduct electricity better, copper chips will reduce power consumption.
I thought Intel has had horrible trouble making chips with copper? Is this true? If so, what can we expect from these chips? Isn't this why Intel is having so much trouble competing with AMD?
Silly Intel, just make some decent chips. AMEN!
Hey intel, remember that recall a month or so ago? Why not work towards making a shipable product that works, not just targetting another company!
I guess this is good news for AMD, because it almost seems like they are ignoring AMD and converging on Transmeta.
Give it a few years. My baby sister can navigate her way up and down any windows application, and I am getting her into Linux. Kids today are born and bred on computers, so the 'average user' will start getting more and more intelligent in years to come...
A linux only game that is top of the line that everyone wants to play will be what makes linux a platform worth gaming on.
Then they need to make all the popular games have a linux port AND put it on the windows version CD. People don't want to give up windows when their favorite games don't run on linux.
Just like how the Mac boomed after "Independence Day" (Jeff Goldblum's character used a Mac laptop the entire movie)? (it didn't help mac a shred, in case you didn't know)
They even made Mac commercials on how it was in the movie. It didn't help. Gnome in a movie really doesn't mean squat, because those that don't know what Linux or Gnome is, aren't going to all of a sudden realize it after this movie. Plus, people don't look at movies for computing advice...
System Shock I
and II were good games, but not influential. Their genre had already been established.
What? What games established the RPG FPS before System Shock? What FPS had a full, crowd pleasing plot before System Shock?? What game used sound to establish fear as in System Shock II (it was the sound that made that game scary)? Look at Deus Ex (also done by Warren Spector)... what a fantastic game that is! Warren Spector breaks the barriers of game genre's. System shock series combined the action of a FPS, and added the intricate strategy and skills of a RPG. Deus Ex allowed for at least three solutions to every puzzle (because it is another RPG FPS). These games will influence every new FPS that comes out. People don't want to play a straight shooter like Quake anymore. They need something else, and I think System Shock broke the barrier for FPS. Because of System Shock, FPS aren't just kill everything in site, and collect keys to get to the next level. Halflife is a great FPS because it had an excellent plot, but SystemShock was the first FPS to have a good solid plot. Look at Counter-Strike, and Unreal Tournament (sure, UT has Deathmatch mode, but it has a bigger population in the other modes).
System Shocks broke the ground on making a FPS more than just hack and slash.
I've done something similar in a very minor sense. When I was a big MUD admin, I'd startup a mud with the general codebase, and invite a buncha hackers into it to crash it and exploit any bug or cheat. Logged everyone, plugged all the holes, and it still runs without a player caused crash since the public opening.
But always remember that you can never be 100% secure, because crackers will always find another hole, no matter how tight the security.
I have to admit my favorite and most addictive game is tribes. I started with pong, and went through Wolfenstein all the way to todays popular games. Tribes was the first On-line only game which *required* gameplay which made the game unique and a ton of fun.
Close second would be anything by Warren Spector (System Shock, Deus Ex). He made games that broke the genre boarder (RPG FPS, for example).
20 years ago computers were not as mainstream as they are today. That is why console controllers have increased in buttons slowly (atari's 1 button to the DC 7 buttons). Now that computers are common in almost every household, it allows consoles to be more 'computer-like'.

Honestly, I believe that the Dreamcast was more popular than the PS2 in combined Japan and US sales. Why aren't consoles selling like they used too??

This opinionated post has, what is believed to be, unprovable facts, and is, therefore, being removed by the United States Government.

CS used to be popular until version 1.0 came out. Its been dying ever since.

Typo: *required* gameplay = *required* teamplay
Sorry bout that
