If your intent is to do harm (dropping bricks on people) and you kill someone, then you are guilty of a some kind of Manslaughter. Usually, you have to intend to kill to be convicted of 1st degree murder. The kids you cite are probably guilty of some other kind of Manslaughter.
Counterpoint: I sat in on the sentencing hearing for some 18-year-old who had dropped a 27 pound rock on a car from an overpass and ended up killing some woman through direct impact to the head. He had been convicted of second degree murder.
Anyway, the guy got life in prison...
Oh yeah, and though I didn't actually see the pictures of the body afterwards, the judge said that it was worse than any other injury he's ever seen, including such things as fatal shotgun wounds, ax murders, etc...

Ha ha ha!! I can't believe the amount of negative feedback that this article has generated when it is coming from APPLEINSIDER! I mean, come on, how much credibility do they have? Apple probably never heard of this thing until it was reported on Appleinsider.
Don't believe me when I say that Appleinsider has no credibility? Then check out some of the BS that has turned up on that site. It is also a demonstration of how gullible people are today, if you're curious...
Wow, I must live in a bubble seperated from the rest of reality, and I have become out of touch with just how STUPID people must be. Everyone that I know who can use the bathroom unassisted could figure out how to use two or three different motions with a mouse to produce different reactions in a program. I mean, really, most new computer users buy Windows machines anyway, so they already have to deal with a (at least) two button mouse.
But then again, since I seem to be seperated from reality anyway, it could be that no one who exists in "reality" knows how to use the bathroom unassisted, either.
One of the major points of the Open Source movement is to design superior software through the collaboration of thousands of people across the globe, regardless of who they work for. It was not really designed with profiteers in mind (at least not the GPL). This is why most of the Linux stocks have tanked after the initial IPO hype, and I don't think Lineo will be any different.
This defect in the i820 chipset has been known for more than a month, as I read about it about 5 weeks ago on Tom's Hardware Guide, in an article about Intel's prescence at some hardware convention.
From what I see, RDRAM is just another attempt by Intel and Rambus to cram proprietery, poorly designed technology down everybody's throats so that eventually everyone will be paying up the ass for RAM because it is the one and only standard (hmm... sounds like an OS I know of...).
Anyway, I also found this article on Tom's Hardware comparing the performance of RDRAM with SDRAM, with some surprising results.
Wait a minute, I believe I've heard of a band called Metallica before. They wrote this song called "... And Justice For All" back in the '80s that would apply nicely to this situation, and it was against what this band is trying to do. Hmm... So here's my question: Are you that same band (doubtful)? Or are you some imposter who ripped off the old Metallica's name?
If your key was 8 bits, no matter how secure the algorithm, brute force would 0wn you quickly. And as a real-life example, 56-bit DES is beginning to be feasible to brute-force.
Exactly. Which is why everyone should implement at least 128-bit crypto in their transactions.
You're completely correct, this is very cool. For example, next time I want to install Linux on my Windows 98 machine, I won't have to mess around with moving the Win98 partition and risk moving the (Win98) boot section out of loading range (1024 cyl.). I can just append Linux to the end of the FAT32 partition.
If one were to do a search for so-called illegal material, and a search engine such as Hotbot turned up a link to, say, DeCSS, would the search engine be legally accountable?

Ummm... PPC is obsolete now. In case you haven't noticed, Apple hasn't released a speed upgrade from the 450mhz G4 since they were released sometime around last October.
I can't really see why anyone would want to run Firewire over distances of 100 meters. It certainly wouldn't be for saving money over Ethernet. I was at Best Buy yesterday to pick up a Cat 5 patch cable, and I saw a 6' Firewire cable for $75!
Yeah, I also find it hard to believe that they could make decent voice-recognition software that would run on the very limited system resources of a PDA.
Either: 1) They made one hell of a breakthrough in voice-recognition technology that will have repercussions throughout the whole PDA and PC industry, with the elimination of the requirement that everyone who runs it has a Pentium III 800 or better system,
What if instead of breaking up Micro$oft, they force them to make the source code of Windows freely available? What will happen if *competent* people start developing it?

I thought that the reason no one is using AMD hardware in servers was because there were no MP motherboards that supported the Athlon.
But I could be wrong...

Theo and his openBSD deservies a lot of criticism Yeah, like for OpenBSD's complete lack of support for SMP.

What kind of creative control did you have over the development of Starship Titanic?

C'mon, moderate this Nazi asshole down. How does this relate at ALL to the current discussion?
Hmmm... so, what exactly are "all the basic commands"?
