...how long will it take for the major chipset makers (Via, SiS) to adopt this technology? It'd be great to see this available on the Athlon platform in the near future.
Maybe it (18) would have sold better if it didn't suck so bad.
It's quite obvious by listening to it that he's simply trying to cash in on what made Play so successful...to the point that he used the same sounds (string samples, etc), and even similar melodies and chord progressions.
If you dither down the raw dvd to a lower-bandwidth standard (SVCD would be good), it'd be very easy to fit an entire dvd onto a dvd-r of half the size.
Consider that you can fit roughly 45 minutes of video on an 80 minute (700mb) cd-r in SVCD format, a 2 hour movie would weigh in well under 4.7 gigs.
Of course, with the extra space, you'd probably want to retain the ac3 audio and bump up the bitrate to get the most out of that 4.7 gigs.
It's in situations like these where it's good to know the dns servers of your local.edu offhand. Do a scan of CSU next time and write their dns server ips down (or ask someone who goes to school there).
P.S. I feel for you guys in northern CO....the metro area (lakewood/golden included) was back up within a few days, it sounds like you guys were without for a few WEEKS....seems like they didn't prioritize that region very high:(
I was a former @work (business) customer, and since the switchover, have only been able to use DHCP. This results in having the same cap as the regular @home customers (1.5mbit down, 128kbit up).
This is all well and good, but in a building of 40 people, we hit that cap pretty easily during the day. I've called tech support twice to get a new static ip sorted (after all, we ARE paying for it).
The first time, they told me that they put a work order in and it should be a few days. When I didn't hear back from them a week later, I called again. The poor techie explained to me that it would probably be another week, but "your dhcp address is pretty stable." I kindly (but firmly) explained to her that we werent paying twice as much for the same speed restrictions and an "almost static" ip.
Although this is troublesome, I have to compliment AT+T for their quick switchover, especially on such short notice.
I'm curious if any other attbi business customers are having the same problem?
I wonder when the DMCA-enforcers will start doing to Kazaa users what they did to DrinkOrDie.
They won't....simply because DoD was a small handful of people working together in an organized fashion....whereas Kazaa is 27 million people running amuck.
If the justice department wanted to invest the money and manpower to track all those people for 14+ months...I think they would overspend their budget.
No...a properly configured copy of sendmail on a good stable server os should be just dandy for all intents and purposes. I know that from my house, a dinky linux box works fine, and for my school, a beastly AIX rackmount works even better.
I'm sure that this could have some useful application in the real world, but to me it seems like a "gee-whiz" innovation.
However, the ability to tell my tv to record this week's episode of space ghost while I'm out of town could prove useful.
Then again, the evil corporations will track your recording habits through their webpage and build a profile with which to bombard you with more useless advertising.

True true, but I think the point that most posters have made here is the one that really deserves to be noted. I use both win2k and linux, each has their benefits, I wouldn't consider myself a zealot either way. Yet, this article does piss me off because Moody intentionally toyed with the numbers to make his point. Even the raw statistics, when looked at properly will counteract his argument.

This reminds me of the scene from "The Saint" where they hide messages inside usenet posts about pest control. My first post and its completely pointless, yay! ---
That sort of defeats the purpose....besides why would you want to up-sample? You won't gain any quality that way.
...because I wasn't paying attention the first time :)
What I meant was industry-wide support to the point where it becomes feasible (and cheap enough) to integrate into the desktop environment.

All this is in vein though, since the album has been floating around on the net as mp3 for over a week already.
Still....you can't blame them for trying.

Besides, all good kiddies know that the best conversations take place in +i and +k channels anyways.
