This is sorta strange..my friend MattH and I were just having an arguement about braincells growing back this afternoon. He was trying to feed me some line about cellular phones causing braincell depletion in small children...and I told him that now they learned braincells can grow back, so I wouldn't care if a small child used a cell phone (though I can't think of a good reason for them too) and he was telling me that braincells never grew back...I argued that I had seen some article in a magzine about it and how that could possibly prevent the onset of alzheimers disease....then I just got an email from him telling me to look at this article (admitting his dumbness.:) couldn't be a better time for it:)
the goth and such that I am speaking of are not all of them..hence my mention of stereotypes. I know a lot about a lot of the goth in my school, and they admit to me that they are doing it to make a statement..and they do! not just with their clothing and music, but with their actions. Often times they are the trouble makers. (this is not all the time, but it is a lot of the time. I do not shun these people, nor do i stay away from them. I often talk to them and hang out with a few of them. I am not speaking for all of them, but a lot of them are the way i was talking about. and yes..in my school...geeks are counterculture..but noone seems to care bout them.:) (just wait till i rule the world someday)
I understand that there are stereotypes that are taken way too far and it ends up causeing problems, but in my school it is somewhat different. THe goth kids that wear black and listen to weird music (manson and zombie and stuff) are generally the ones that do cause problems. THese kids are out to make a statement. They are purposely drawing attention to themselves. Otherwise they would wear more normal clothes and not smear black makeup all over their faces. They purposely act different to draw attention to themselve and then whine and complain about it when they get the attention they wanted! They are different, and they want to be different. THese people know that there can be problems when they dress and act that way, but they do it anyways. I have to say that the counterculture in my school brings a lot of the trouble they get upon themselves.
What really bugs me is how the geeks are being treated in my school. When I go to the computer lab, I telnet to my home machine and use pine and lynx and stuff to surf the web and check my email because I hate using the macs and the limited surfing that the school allows. One time I was approached by a librarian who accused me of hacking and kicked me out of the library. I think the biggest problem is the people that make judgements about things they don't understand at all! THe librarian was an imbecile and was punishing me for knowing a little something about computers....
Actually, and interesting thing....my friend MattH does a radio show online (an on the radio) and last year we did spots that included On-the-scene reporting (for instance...outside for the weather and such) we actually used FRS radios. We used a small, 2 channel mixer, and it worked really well. I would be outside with one radio, and he would be inside with the other. I would talk through the radio, from whatever location I was at (up to 2 miles away) and he would recieve it all on the computer and stream it using shoutcast and winamp. It was sorta interesting and could certainly work. It would also be fairly cheap...50 bucks for a coupla FRS radios (which almost everyone has nowadays) and 75 for a cheap mixer (or run it straight into your line-in jack).
Great..just what I need. I was cruising the site, and my little brother was looking over my shoulder...he saw the legos...and since he is already very into legos, he is going to start doing things like this! Thanks a lot slashdot! Now I have to put up with my little brother making weird time consuming/wasting lego creations and then he will ask me to make a webpage for it!!! I think i need a little more net privacy for reading slashdot!!
you can always check out x10.com and if they don't have what you are looking for you could email them and ask about it and they might be able to come up with something, or tell you where you could find something. x10 has some Great radio controlled devices...my room at home has x10 units hooked up into the lights and such...all by remote control...we even have motionsensors and are looking into getting some other stuff.
Of course...ethernet cable would work just fine for distances over a hundred feet....as long as it is less that 1500 ft (or whatever the max for ethernet cable is) That would offer excellent speed and would be useful for other things as well.
erm..no i think just about everyone in florida would be pretty pissed if gore got his way and the electoral college was held without florida...If i was from florida, i would be pissed because he obviously didn't care about my vote. Of course..I would prolly vote for bush....
ermmm..actually, if you read the constitution, you do not NEED 270 to win. You need a simple majority of electoral votes. the 270 is a majority of the electoral college when all states are present. If a state doesn't come, then you just need the majority. Chances are, Al Gore is going to attempt to tie up Florida until they hold the electoral college and force it to be held without florida, therefore he would have the majority. Hopefully, he will realize that he isn't gaining any popularity by screwing around with the courts and pissing the military off and he will settle down and concede tomorrow. Or he can tie up the courts and the election and piss off the military, and ALL the residents of Florida.
i would have to agree with you. I personally prefer digital movies and such...I just wanted to point out that it is not a perfect replacement for analog. It was also an attempt to get an ontopic first post...but I was a little late.:)
Wow...I am really tempted to troll right now, but it would be too easy. Episode II, Natalie Portman.....streaming movies....way way way to easy to make something innappropriate.:)
On topic note: If we had digital streaming....I can see that being a great way for football fans to have big superbowl parties. No place better than a theatre for a massive super bowl party...that is...if you are into that sorta thing. But...besides concerts and stuff...sports would be a big thing for live streaming into theatres.
Of course..there is a potential problem doing a movie all digital...you can get the pixelization affect and you don't really get true color the whole time....it is a lot easier for editing and such...but there are problems with pixelization and not having real color...
Interesting thing...when I had a beta version of a previous office thing, I could use it until the new version came out...after that it would start to give me messages telling me to upgrade or register the version....I got annoyed at the messages and decided to uninstall. Unfortunately, after the time period ended, it no longer allowed that function. This not only prevented me from ever uninstalling, I could no longer use the program itself. I tried to use a clean sweep program, and the messages kept popping up and causing what I was doing to crash. I eventually went into DOS and deleted the programs manually. I hate subscription based IE programs
It seems as though the athlon processor kicked Intel's butt according to the numbers, but there are some other things that put athlon way ahead of the p4....for instance... PRICE! athlon chips are a lot cheaper than these P4s.....also...the p4s require you to buy an entire new system...new mobo, new powersupply, new case, and a new 454 gram heatsink (454grams is about a 1 pound). I think that if these things were added in, there is no way that anyone in their right mind would take a P4 over the AMD chips.

Yes..we know this already..but what about the 3 rotors? and i don't recall anyone being arrested yet back during that article. This is NOT a repeat article...even though you might think it is. How do we know that they actually caught the guy and got the machine back. This might be a bigger part of the complex plot to nab the real guy and get the real machine back. I think that this is just another coded message to the thief. Or not.

I think that this idea might fly for Yahoo....i don't see why they would want to do this since they already have money coming out their ears....but because of the huge popularity and all the yahoo diehards...i think they could potentially make some money. You know there are some misinformed business people out their that base decisions soley on name recognition....I disagree with doing this, and i think it is dumb, but I also think they will make a ton of money off of this and I would not be bothered in the least bit to be in their shoes right now.
The guy on the computer next to me was looking into buying a p4 off of ebay (he's not all that bright) and was showing me all this stuff about how great the p4's are. unfortunately for him...noone would want to get a p4 because you have to get a brand new system, new mobo, powersupply and the heatsink weighs 454 grams (1 lbs) Anyone who buys one of the first runs of p4s can't be all that with it. Mr. know-it-all in the next computer will have lots of fun with his supposed p4 system.
no problem with my ride...all I have is mutual funds that don't have many tech stocks in them. A few dips here and there, but it all evened out.:) of course...i am only 16, and I only have about 2000 invested....
