Hell, we should apply a grammar filter to Slashdot. And maybe another filter that automatically corrects "rediculous" and other cretinous misspellings.

Of course, judging by the kind of garbage that does well these days, there's probably no hope.

at least there are foreign films.

Maybe combine this with some bluetooth headphones, and you've got an *amazing* jukebox.
Take it to a party somewhere on campus.. instant DJ.

so yeah, it looks like they *did* steal some source code from mplayer. "but now they've released source, its ok," you say. no it isn't. apparently, they now claim that warpvision is/was GPL software. well, mplayer is released under a couple of licenses... its not all GPL, so that does not allow redistribution completely under GPL for derived works. (does that make sense to antybody else?) hmmm...

i do have to say, however, that i'm a bit disappointed in Arpad's rather immature reaction.
Arpad! you listening? rabit, knee-jerk reactions like this make us look bad. i have a lot of respect for you as a programmer, but your reaction is way out of line.
"They will die a dog's death for sure I swear!" its SOFTWARE, for god's sake. lighten up.

I've purchased boxed copies of every version of SuSE since 6.4. Not because I'm not "smart enough to actually learn how to use it," but because I believe in supporting companies that I appreciate. People that are smart enough to use Linux, but not smart enough to understand basic economics (or don't give a rip about the company that makes their distro of choice) are the ones that don't buy boxed sets. Its in my best interests to keep SuSE around, so why not cough up the money?

  12. Re:poor brittle engineering? on Linus Says No To Annoying Boot Messages · · Score: 1

you missed his point... the poor, brittle engineering is evidenced by the macos' boot sequence and lack of useful information.
sigwinch's point was that apple could get away from this because they only had to support a very small number of configurations.
i can't speak for digital unix or irix, but solaris machines are plenty verbose through the boot sequence, and even more so when something breaks. the fact that these unices only run on a small number of machines has nothing to do with their quality of engineering.
