    Scientists wonder a lot of things. That's the point of science. Fortunately the state of tech has advanced significantly since then, and they can wonder about things closer to current reality. Also, speculating about earth without greenhouse gases is pointless - we'd not exist if earth had no greenhouse gases. There's a balance/cycle of balances and the question is how far off we've hosed up the balance.

    I've had bariatric surgery, and I don't get enough nutrients through the minute amounts of food I eat daily - think in the range of 500 calories or so, pure protien and some fiber/veggies. Multivitamins (plus additional vitamins) have kept me from dying, and will do so for the rest of my life.

    Unions provided higher wages back then. Corporations prospered, and CEO's didn't starve. We've had "prosperity" since 1980, but now, American workers aren't making shit for wages, and have to buy everything on credit, and also have to work two jobs, in order to stay afloat. There's no comparison.

    I'm glad we had anti-union pushback to provide those 50 years of higher wages and prosperity after the depression! Who knows how much higher wages would have been without the unions messing stuff up and preventing business owners from paying more out of the kindness of their hearts!

    Also, we need a "base station" whether desktops go away or not. You need to feed your tablets and phone and set-top boxes from somewhere, and the cloud is too monetized to really help consumers.
    The desktop or whatever base station is in vogue in the privately-owned and controlled appliance that we need.
