  1. It's about the OS, not the apps on Linux On Windows - The Thin End Of The Wedge? · · Score: 2

As many others have commented, the strong part of a Linux distribution is the operating system, not the applications. So, a project like LINE will most likely not encourage users to migrate to Linux; Linux applications are too weak and unfriendly for most Windows users, so, if anything it will discourage users from seeing Linux as a viable desktop solution.

IE - pretty standard Windows - easy to figure out if that's what you've been using. Horribly crippled interface for managing bookmarks. Just Horrible. And I hate how they're stored, too (each URL as an individual file, though that's a personal preference).

I actually find bookmarks a lot easier to manage in IE. If you avoid the "Organize Favorites" and go straight to Windows Explorer, it is much easier to manage because you treat them as files. Treating everything like a file system is the UNIX way and one of the things UNIX and Linux zealots rave about. So hah!

From what I understand, GTK-- is on the way out, being replaced by Inti developed at Red Hat. Inti is a documented C++ framework for GTK+. I don't know of any application written for Inti, but it is a space to watch. Also, I believe it was developed because of the immaturity of GTK--, and because corporations really want to develop for GNOME, but want to do it in C++.

  20. NPR on The New Mediascape · · Score: 1

Most news broadcasts are at 6:00p or 11:00p. I simply cannot get home by 6:00, my work keeps me until at least 6:30p or 7:00p. At 11:00, I better be sleeping, otherwise the next day is going to be pretty rough.

So, for me it is all about NPR. It is something I can listen to in my car, or over the NET and get news that cuts to the chase. NPR also provides intelligent discussions about current events that, for the most part, are interesting.

So, for those who face similar time constraints, tune into 88.5 (and no, I don't work for NPR :)).

This is a little off-topic, but it just happened. The absolute worst with Netscape is when you are looking at the bookmarks, and it crashes (it cannot connect to the server). Then, you have the backwards arrow cursor, and you cannot select anything else. The only option is to kill the X session, or wait 10 minutes for Netscape to timeout.
