It is not just 'Microsoft' that is interested in using C#, it is developers. It singificantly reduces development time, much less code to manage, and much more difficult to introduce buggy code then using C/C++. I don't know where you get the idea only 'real' game studios use all C++. Many 'real' game studios also use C# In addition on other platforms you can use C# with the mono framework, so it is not locked into Microsoft.

I've been using Windows 7 on four machines - 2 running x64 and 2 running x86 (2 laptops, 2 workstations) since beta in January and haven't seen memory usage problems. I've also tested numerous other hardware models, many on or below the recommended spec - i.e. systems with 512 MB ram, and also machines with 1 GB ram, In the performance tab of task manager in Windows 7 you will see large amount of ram used for cache. Windows 7 is very responsive, and fast...basicially totally awesome, I couldn't stand having to go back to XP. Possibly there are some applications people running that are memory hogs, but it's not Windows 7.

Even long term costs of open source can be high in corporate environmenets. Generally licensing costs are just a tiny fraction of the costs for maintenance and support. Open source products tend to have major revisions more frequently, resulting in more update cycles/app test & deployment. There may also be impacts on productivity - i.e. open source office products may be good for some basic documentation, but products like Microsoft Office make it easier to do more in less time, and with less bugs. In addition commercial products often have higher quality documentation and more polished user interfaces, which can reduce training costs for support staff and end users.
