  1. The Burbs with Tom Hanks. on What's Your Favorite Underappreciated Movie? · · Score: 1

A great movie that I seldom hear people talk about. Great idea and a great ending, if you're able to get ahold of it you really should see it.

  2. Re:Spielberg's 1941 on What's Your Favorite Underappreciated Movie? · · Score: 1

I cant really remember that scene being that funny but I have to agree with you that it is a kickass movie, my favorite part is probably with John belushi as that funky pilot who steps out of the play and falls on his ass =). It really is a forgotten movie too, good call there buddy.

  3. Another solution? on Microsoft Settlement Compliance Criticized · · Score: 1

Could someone explain to me why all the software developers keep trying to reverse-engineer Microsofts proprietary solutions? Why not just create a new smb-like standard and a client-side installer for the Windows OS? This could be done so that the final solution is transparent to the end-user? I doubt people that use the computers really care about if they are using the smb protocol to access shares on their network or another protocol. Just release the sucker as a open protocoll free for all developers to use. Then developers could build on this protocol for user authentication and such. Guess your average dumb joe-user wont change and maybe keep using smb but those people are unlikely to mess around with samba solutions anyways so fuck em. Whats the reason this type of solution doesnt exist already and everybody is running after Microsofts shitty closed protocoll / NDA-enabled sucker solution?

Baha, in these days of Britney Spears and N'sync do you seriously believe that? Its the companies that find the artists, give them lyrics and music and transport them around the world. All the artists have to do is not make a fool of themselves. This is the age of the new type of musicians.

  5. Re:38% thinner? WTF? on Maxtor Announces 80GB Platters · · Score: 1

I have thought about this issue for some time and I really cant understand why hdd manufacters still try to cram as much storage as available into small harddrives. Personally I wouldnt mind having say a one cubic metres big box somewhere hidden in my room if it could just accomodate my storage needs.
Harddrive size is basically just an issue for laptops and your average joe but for companys and geeks like me with big storage needs wouldnt it be better just to have something like I described above connected to your network with cat5. I know there are NAS solutions out there but they are basically just a computer with a bunch of small hdd's anyway. If the harddrive manufacturers were to stop thinking so much about the physical size of storage solutions and instead go for capacity and reliability I bet they could be manufactured quite cheaply and probably harddrive failure wouldnt be such a big issue is now because fault-redundancy would be alot easier to build into these babies.

So Maxtor, Seagate, Western Digital & IBM, are there any plans for something like this? I would take big storage space with good reliability at a decent price over the physical size of harddrives any day!

  7. I quit buying cd's 6 years ago. on RIAA Says Webcasting Royalties Are Too Low · · Score: 1

Personally I havent bought a CD since 1996. It all started when EMI started going after the On-Line Guitar Archive. For those who havent heard about it, OLGA started in 1992 and grew to be probably the biggest guitar tab archive on the internet. Tabs are basically text files that explain how to play a song and the lyrics for that song is usually included.
However the fucks over at EMI figured that if people knew how to play and sing the songs noone would buy their records. So they basically managed to kick OLGA of its servers. However they relocated and things were running smoothly until 1998 when Harry Fox Agency managed to shut it down.
If noone learns to play guitar who the fuck is gonna make records in the future? (yea yea, im sure you pill popin tranceheads got a smart ass comment, but you know what I mean). Kind of like shooting yourself in the foot huh?
OLGA is still around but its alot more complicated to use because servers have to be located in Poland and such.

So thats it, havent bought a single fucking cd since 1996. Instead I pirate every cd and visit festivals and go to concerts to support bands touring (actually working) which equals more money to the bands and less for the cunt Hillary Rosen.

    THE RIAA'S WORST NIGHTMARE.
