A friend of mine went through something like this. He registered his domains under his internet nickname, but paid under his real name. Now they won't allow him to do anything unless he comes up with a legal ID that has his nickname on it. They don't care that he was paying with his legal name for the last X years.

So he's waiting for the domain to expire so he can pick it up under his real name. The registar (godaddy) refuses to help at all and he feels a lawyer is a waste of money. So for now he's stuck waiting because godaddy puts all expired domains up for auction for a period of days (registars should NOT be allowed to auction expired domains, conflict of interest - especially when they're causing the expiration).

I suspect many of the people out there who are currently parking domains and putting them up for auction are probably the registars, because it doesn't appear that they have to pay to register open domains, so why not speculate if it's free?

I'm not so sure that the new system is cheaper or easier than the old one. Back in the old days at least a phone call always could clear up any problems.

Second life (to me at least) just seems like another MUD/MUCK, only with a lot less creativity. Almost all the icons are made by a small group of people and you have to buy one (because most of us don't have that much artistic talent to make something that looks good), a lot of the actions you do are programs that you or someone else probably bought (because too many people don't want to learn another language, or programming).

I've watched people play with Second Life, and I see them always clicking on lots of actions, and clicking on lots of poses, etc etc etc. It seems to me that a large percentage of interaction and behavior in Second Life is made up of canned actions and behaviors. Which is to say: not very creative. Yes you have a pretty interface and we all know how a lot of people can't resist pretty pictures on a screen, but content-wise I think it tends to be pretty vapid.

Except of course for the people who make a lot of money off of it, (and I know more than one bringing home several hundred dollars of real cash per month from sales to the other users). To them I'm sure it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, and I guess from their point of view they're right. But I just don't find it to be very interesting or entertaining.

If you're going to have a windows box attached to the internet, and you're not keeping an eye out for attacts, then you should at least be running some sort of virus protection on a daily basis. I have my destop system buried behind multiple layers and I still check its traffic daily and run regular virus, spyware, and adware checks on it.

If you're going to run on the information super highway, you need to take at the very least the basic precautions. Otherwise you're as guilty as the dog owner who lets his dog run wild in the neighborhood cause he didn't bother building a fence. And just as guilty.

I'm not talking about the good owners after all, I'm talking about the bad ones. Which on the internet is a rather large number. Otherwise there would be no financial incentive for spammers in the first place, correct? And the Botnets would be small or non-existant, right?

Now if you were legally liable for the damages your system did, regardless of whether or not it was rooted, we'd see a major change in botnets, and a LOT less people with rooted machines.

People only react to that which causes them difficulty, punish them for not taking care of their responsibilities and things will get better. But until then, it will only get worse.

You're part of a botnet? Pay a fine! Didn't know? Too bad. Just like your dog getting out and destroying property, if you don't care enough to protect others from your wanton disregard, it's going to cost you.

There are still more leftwing shows on the radio than right wing (NPR), and the leftwing ones are financed with public money and given government support.

And I'm not even getting into Television where 99 percent of everything is left wing. All during the time of the 'Fairness doctrine' the right NEVER got a chance to speak, and now you want to come along and offer 'equal time' to people who already control the majority of the media?

Will you put Rush on TV for 3 hours a day to counter 'Good Morning America', Katie Couric on the CBS News, etc? No, of course you won't.

As for the 'conservative media being held accountable' I see them held accountable all the time, it's the left wing media that gets a free ride. Just look at Air America and all the money they stole, now they're in Chapt 11, yet Soro's is funneling money through a front operation to save them. Where's your left wing accountability?
