I know this view is extremely Randian and I'd love to hear some opposing viewpoints.
I'm not Randian, and I mostly agree with you.
For me the IE thing is a bit grey area. (I'm not very familiar with antitrust laws, or their shortcomings.) Microsoft gave away its browser for free. If it's illegal OSS software should be illegal too, shouldn't it? (In fact the FSF was once sued for predatory pricing.) Or look the Oracle-Sun merger: the argument there was that MySQL and OrcaleDB was targeting different markets (otherwise their marketshare were too high). So for me the application of antitrust laws seem a bit arbitrary.
Cattle flesh can't be infected by flies. I creates a special layers preventing it. Of course there are a lot of random rules mixed up with useful ones.
Please, can't we have some more abstraction layers? My machine is just so fast I can't handle it. (Yeah, I know, we use the extra performance to services which were unfeasible earlier blah, blah...)
Oh, it's just simply evolution of memes. Raising babies was always very resource demanding, and it's not such long time since we have cheap contraception. So the taboo is related to population control. (And not having "illegitimate" children; because in a low tech society it's very hard to track the father)
Last time I checked the Bible, the old testament has passages about to bury your feces, not to make love with a menstruating woman, and some other common sense stuff. Heck, do you have any idea why Jews and Muslims don't eat pork?
I don't live in the US, but in Hungary (EU) the CPS will have a visit at your home and assess whether your living conditions are suitable for raising a child.
Well, maybe FOSS is just avoiding the reinvention of the wheel? I mean, you don't see much innovation in operating systems, so there's no reason people would buy the same things again and again. (Even Microsoft couldn't pull that off, hadn't it invested in DirectX.)
I mean, your 20$ (or whatever amount you choose) will only matter, if others are speculating in the long run as well. If they're in short term returns, they'll pay minimum amount, and the company call still go bankrupt, see tragedy of commons.
That doesn't sound that bad, considering they're bundling at least 2 year old games, so the people who were ready to pay higher prices have already bought it. However I don't think being purely donation-ware would keep them profitable.
I just checked out Penumbra on Youtube, and the control system was really innovative, and people raved in comments. Do you have any idea what these games are, or you just felt to urge to use a cliche?
You can install standalone debs and rpms, and they can have viruses. Will they get executable rights by default? (I'm on windows now.)

They're free to set their prices. You know, it's how capitalism works. (Antitrust is a different issue.)
It doesn't even need nukes!
ZOMG Skynet!
Russians say: "nuke it!"
Part of me says you're right ... the other parts says "Why does it bother you?". (Unless you want to be a sysadmin in China.)
If ISO 8859-1 was good enough for Homer, Jesus, & Shakespeare ...
It's not good enough for Muhammad and Buddha.
Cry me river. ( Budapest/Bucharest )
As with any regulation, the idea was to limit competition and thereby ensure profitability.
Or sometimes increase it (antitrust)

1, it's about adult diaper
2, Japan has much more old people than babies
I don't get this whole global warming thing. Could someone explain it with a car analogy?

Rand argued that selfisness is the ultimate moral, therefore I think she would choose paying the lowest price possible ($0.01).

So when EA does overwork their developers, so that they finally burn out, and get cheap new ones, is because they hate games?

However, there's no guarantee that they'll make future games ...
Hey, at least I'd deserve a Flaimbait tag.
