The companies don't want to price things accordingly because of their current investment in their supply. They feel if they charge less/more accordingly for the digital-only product then they will kill their physical products leaving them with a LOT of stock and manufacturing equipment that just can't move/use because everyone bought the cheaper digital-only version. They seem to hope that even if they can get digital sales to be the norm that they can keep maximum profits and (blindly) hope that people are so accustomed to paying $20 for a movie that they won't consider the difference in how the movie is purchased and that a movie truly is worth spending $20 on regardless of it's format.
the plan is for the US to try to use US laws on foreign/non-US people and websites until they conform to US laws... *grabs popcorn* well this might be fun to watch.
Last month, a world survey was conducted by the UN. The only question asked was: "Would you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world." The survey was a huge failure...
Africa they didn't know what "food" meant.
Eastern Europe they didn't know what "honest" meant.
Western Europe they didn't know what "shortage" meant.
China they didn't know what "opinion" meant.
the Middle East they didn't know what "solution" meant.
South America they didn't know what "please" meant, and
the USA they didn't know what "the rest of the world" meant.
I wonder, are sites like MegaVideo part of that list? I have a friend who told me about that they canceled their tv subscription and bought a MegaVideo subscription instead since they can watch even more and when they want. Wonder which sites are most likely to be a part of this list?
Thats the biggest issue I have with ebook readers. The price of the ebooks. I get a less usable book (can't really share it) for the same price as a real book. And a real book has more overhead to cover. Materials used to make the book, transportation costs, book sellers fee. These aren't a factor in an ebook (well the sellers fee is). Am ebook is just information on a server's HD and for the size of the ebook, the bandwidth isn't really much of an issue. Until the prices go down to something more reasonable for the ebooks, I'm not going to buy a reader regardless of the readers price tag.
Maybe it's because people don't want desktops so much anymore and the market is shifting to mobile devices and the technology companies want to keep making money?
Demand is only a part of it I think. People buy a PC and use it for around 4ish years before they look to upgrade it, mobile devices (mostly in the terms of smartphones) are upgraded every year or 2 on average (not considering them breaking from mis-use, something you'll find in smartphones much more often then PC's/laptops). This means you'll sell at the longest stretch twice as many smartphones then PC's in the same time frame making the smartphone a higher 'demand' market even though I think PC's/laptops are more desired/demanded by people then smartphones.
When your speaking with 'no accent' it means your speaking in the local style accent which no one there will notice. It helps you blend in and feel more like 'one of us'. And to the locals, your speaking with 'no accent'.
Same way you can speak English with an accent, stupid. Think, even in the USA you have many accents on the SAME language. A New Yorker accent, Brooklyn accent, country-hick style accent, southern drawl accent, California surfer accent...
You assume she knew the risks, when it's very possible the scientists themselves didn't understand all of the risks. They also may not have disclosed the known risks.
Welcome to the concept of 'experimental' treatment. It means they don't know exactly what it will do or all the possible risks. As TFA states the problem being 'A woman with kidney disease has died after receiving an experimental stem cell treatment... sparked lively debates around the Internet about whether patients should be able to willingly take on risks associated with experimental treatments.' I say let them if they know its experimental (and what experimental entails). If someone has something incurable that can either disable/cause death in the short term then they might be willing to try something experimental as it's at least a hope for something instead of just sitting there and either watching life pass them by/waiting to die. Best case they are part of finding out the cure, worst case they die and we learn why and they knew that death was a very possible answer.
Because different problems require different ways to answer them. 'Watson' seems to be able to handle information based questions by searching for certain pieces of information based on what it already knowns (so no true 'problem solving by the looks of it, still reading the article), but by the sounds of it, it can't handle 'visual' questions (like looking at a banana and an orange and telling the difference). That takes a different type of problem solving. 'Lucy' on the other hand was supposed to be able to handle how to tell the difference between items without resorting to backup information which seems to be completely different then what 'Watson' can do, but 'Lucy' couldn't ever answer the questions 'Watson' can.
If you are a guy (not an unreasonable assumption on/.), I think it's really strange that online forums are suggesting you the name "MaryBeth131"
What were your parents thinking?
While I haven't tried it, I would think that using the linux version of DOSbox to play the .exe would make for a better, more stable option then WINE.

But the oil is in the oilsands, located in Northern Alberta which has the area code of 780.
since when US=ALL?
Reminds me of that joke about the UN poll.

You'd want to call either 250 - 604 - 778 for BC for a code 420. Alberta is for oil...

Also, here is an interactive graph (needs Flash 8 or higher) of the UK showing crime levels for the past few years. The graphs show that crime has stayed pretty much at a stable level from 2002 to 2009.

What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
African or European?
If it can properly rate if these people are hot or not.
If you are a guy (not an unreasonable assumption on /.), I think it's really strange that online forums are suggesting you the name "MaryBeth131"
What were your parents thinking?
Maybe they were listening to 'A Boy Named Sue'?
What about Arthur "Two Sheds" Jackson?
A tragic accident happened, and now he's Arthur 'No Sheds' Jackson. Very tragic.

What about Chucks genome? he is indestructible
You don't pull apart Chuck Norris's genome, Chuck Norris's genome pulls you apart
I'm trying to think of a pun to keep this going, but it's just too hard.
Just keep working at it, I'm sure something will come...
