By the time you have made it far enough to have your own Linux distro running on your home system you should have no difficulty finding info on how to burn CDROMs and make installer programs ( you can steal can't you? )

Here are a few questions you should ask yourself before starting out on one of these "back to nature" campaigns. Make bow and arrows or a sling to shoot without tools? Make a stone knife to skin? Can you make a shelter for a night without tools? Paper industry may decline. Basicaly any kind of manual labor may become a hobby. I am not scared of these things and neither should be you. Flashing wrong BIOS chip with it is not prohibited but is also not supported. As long as I am not trying to blame Promise after I screwed up my card the whole procedure is absolutely legal. And as to that statement about make, the guy didn't clame to be an electrical engineer or something. If you are so freaking smart tell us what is the function of that resistor.
For me, 6 straight hours of sleep is a luxury that I can only allow myself on a weekend. I do not mean that I work all the rest of the time, but I work 50-60 hrs. a week I have my personal projects and I have a bit of life that I try to keep.

As the other reply to your message correctly points out, not all ( and probably not even most ) of people who use pirated SW/music/etc do not have enouhg money to buy it. AFAIR from one of he older/. polls at least 1/3 of us here are IT professionals and surely can afford a 20$ for a CD or VHS tape. It is just the matter of not spending these 20$ for something you do not really want. If you download a few MP3 by some band and you like them there is a good chance tha you will buy their CD next time you are in music store. Yes, if you are ( say ) a student who took too many classes to have time for work and you just do not have 20$ then the above argument stands true, if you are unable to get it for free you are not going to get it. But in general, why would I buy something ( more then a 1-3$ in cost ) if I don't know what good it is. And with such things as software it is especially true. Even a demo version is not always enough. I have downloaded many a warez game and many an MP3 file Games I liked I bought, music I liked I bought. I always like to have an actual box with the game ( manuals, nicely printed CD ), an original CD ( not a CD-R but the original printed CD with cover and stuff ), original book ( all bound in nice cover not a printout or xerox copy ). You know what I mean...

To drop my couple of cents, I have started with FreeBSD 2.2.1 ( it was some time ago:) ). I didn't have any previous UNIX exposure. I knew my windows and netware fairly well. I installed it, configured all my hardware, ran fancy WM's ( enlightenment 0.13 I believe was the latest fad at the time ) etc without ever going for help. I think the first actual question I asked on a newsgroup was when I tried to configure sendmail in some particular way without using m4 ( didn't know about it ).
