  1. You have a lot of zeroes in your sales figures? on Symbian Blasts Google's Phone Initiative · · Score: 1

The summary cuts out the crucial part of that quote so that it means something else. It should say "You have to have a lot of zeroes in your sales figures before a developer gets out of bed," implying that money and prevalence drives developers to write for mobile platforms.

  2. Re:Meet the new boss, same as the old boss on Apple's iTunes DRM Dilemma · · Score: 3, Informative

You know, of course, that Apple doesn't "offer up" non-DRMed podcasts - none of the podcasts you can subscribe to through iTunes are hosted on Apple's servers. iTunes simply puts all the feeds in one place and provides a simple interface to automatically download them from the podcast host sites on a regular basis. So the point that Apple could offer indie tracks without DRM just as easily is not valid.

I'd also ask if you read the R'dTFA, since it counters your points well, but... of course, this is Slashdot.

  3. Re:Upgrade Commercial on Apple Mac/PC Ads With a UK Twist · · Score: 1

The one thing MAC lacks to mention is that if apple decides to release a new version of OS, have their line can't run in and the MAC needs to be replaced. This is incorrect (and I'll ignore the errors in your writing). I have a 5 year old iBook G3 (600 mhz) that runs Mac OS X 10.4.8 quite well, no slowdown whatsoever. It will be running Leopard (10.5) when it is released. I also had previously a PowerMac G3 300 that was designed for and shipped with Mac OS 8.5 that ran Mac OS X 10.3 very, very well.
Macs (not "MAC" - Macintosh vs. MAC (Media Access Control) Address) age very well compared to Windows computers and usually run newer versions of Mac OS with few or no issues.

Erm, wrong. Most antifreeze is Ethylene Glycol, not Propylene Glycol nor Polyethylene Glycol. Propylene Glycol is often found is candy and is the liquid used to make fog in fog machines.

  5. Re:Polyethylene Glycol? on Military Develops Liquid Body Armor · · Score: 3, Informative

You're confusing Polyethylene Glycol with just Ethylene Glycol, which does taste sweet and dogs often lick up puddles of it as it is in antifreeze and ends up on driveways. Not good for fido.

  6. Oh, one more thing... on Overclocking Your Sega Genesis/MegaDrive · · Score: 1

I see all this talk about the games possibly not running properly with the CPU overclocked. I feel the need to share my experience with Sonic CD for PC.
I don't own any PC's, I use Virtual PC with Win95 for any times I may need to use anything in MS land. So, at CompUSA I see this old game of Sonic CD for PC with ridiculously low system requirments (something like 486 or Pentium at 66 or 100 mhz, can't recall exactly). Feeling Virtual PC is more than capable of handling this (Mac is a dual 867 G4), I bought.
Yes, virtual PC is capable. Way too capable. I can't play it at all - faster than if Sonic was a crack addict fast. The clock in the game runs out before I get halfway through any level.
Which makes me think - will the Genesis clock speed affect the time in the games?

    Ah, Sonic. Dude is *awesome*.
But seriously, Sonic games are my favorite games of all time, the geek that I am. I even have a plush Sonic sitting on my dashboard.
A while ago, I came across an interesting problem with my Genesis - it only plays Sonic games. Seriously - I guess somehow swapping in and out of Sonic 2, 3, Sonic and Knuckles and what for years without playing other games has done something weird. I can't play Phantasy Star 3 anymore, nor Vectorman, Earthworm Jim... nothing. It sucks. Happened to my previous Genesis also (which I still have in a closet somewhere).
Still, the idea of overclocking my Genesis and getting Sonic 2 to run even faster... damn. Good thing I have two, eh?

Not the best example of how terrible machine translation can be, for sure. English being a Germanic language, they are actually quite close, translations from English - German - English will not lose nearly as much as English - (Iraqi?) - English, or any other languages in use in the region. Fascinating stuff, nevertheless.
The optimist in me thinks maybe the military has refined this technology to much better than babelfish quality, but the optimist in me also thought Bush wasn't dumb enough to get us into the war in the first place. Eh, Scheisse passiert.

It's quite scary, also, that this is true. Though if I had been there, I would have had a good laugh at the SC saying that, because the idea is just so damn ridiculous. What's wrong with the citizenry questioning the legitimacy of the election? The people have a right to.

Q: It seems a bit confusing regards Outlook functionality though - at one place in your website you say the commercial version has ZideStore but in another place you say that ZideStore will be open-souced?.
A: Again a look at the architecture diagram might help in understanding. The Outlook connectivity needs two pieces of software, a so called MAPI Storage Provider (ZideLook) which is an Outlook plugin that maps MAPI to WebDAV, and the WebDAV middleware server (ZideStore) which translates WebDAV requests to calls to the OGo business logic. The ZideLook plugin is closed source, the ZideStore server is OpenSource. Which makes sense since the ZideStore server is also the integration point to a lot of other clients (like Evolution, iCalendar/HTTP clients, Glow).

When Apple bought Emagic, they discontinued the Windows version. There was no "hobbled" version of Logic being compared. Apple has no version of Logic optimised for Windows to compare their version of of Logic on the G5 with - so they used Cubase SX.

Why didn't they use Cubase on the Mac?
Why would they? They want to show off their professional DAW and how it screams on the G5, not someone else's. You may say that it isn't fair, but I say that Cubase SX on the Mac is a big turd of code that needs flushing. I have no experience with the Windows version.

All the new Agilent GC/MS's and HPLC's, and the Thermo Elemental ICP/MS we just bought are networked to the computer they interface with. Works quite well and allows you to control multiple instruments with one workstation. And there's no need for you to buy those ridiculously expensive GP-IB cards, either.
