When I want to look impressive at work I go into "The Matrix",
Top, and watch tail logfile really impress people.
This will make it look like you/your techs are amazing, and doing things that noone can conceive of. Pie charts and graphs make the job look easy, and noone wants to pay for easy.
The fact that years later Firefox, Safari, and Opera all have different interpretaions of HTML leads me to believe that ODF will hqave similar problems between programs.
There is a video where the Nokia guy gives a presenyation about plasmoids, and runs into a similar problem when he has to open a presentation crated in OO.o or Kpresent in the other and it has a hiccup at one point.
Particularly interesting was the snarky comment about how great open stasndards were at the start, when in the end it was pretty much what I would expect from an MS Office document.
perhaps $.50 - $.75 in food and $2.00 in gas (you appear to not want to calculate person time, or overhead into costs)?
That means the person charging $25.00 (still way low, I charged that when I was a kid, the pros get closer to $50 or $75 if they have real equipment) is marking things up 10 times, and when gas was cheaper it was closer to 15 times.
Your argument about pay can be flipped around too you know. Anybody who makes something that tens of thousands of people find worth it and incredibly enjoyable in a matter of a few months is grossly under-paid (you see, when a luxury item is purchased both sides benefit from the transaction, not just the seller. Buying luxury goods is not a zero sum game).
The developer is not even the person making the money from the digital download, they are making it for the content. Apple makes the money for the download.
This is similar to CDs (which are economically abundant) costing a few cents, which goes to a pressing house, a few dollars go to the shipper, a few more to retail store, and the rest paid for the content (usually owned by a record company).
If you take out the $10-$12 spent on distribution/retail profit, you are left with an even bigger rip-off taken by the content owner than the few dollars in the $5 game example.
How much RAM can Photo Shop CS4 address on a Mac Pro running OS X? How much of it can is use efficiently?
I do whole-heartedly agree, if you need the oomph, Mac Pros are great hardware, but if I were doing serious design work I would be running 64-bit Vista. Fortunately for me I don't do serious design work, and have a larger selection of viable OSs.
Max OS X has its place amongst graphic design people that don't need huge amounts of RAM for photo editing.
CS4 being 64-bit and offering GPU acceleration tips the scale heavily to PC for design work. Many 3D packages appear to support PC first OS X second too.
Can a teacher communicate with an illiterate parent that lives 90 minutes away by bus, and works 14 hours a day, so there child can go to school instead of working themselves with a pad of paper and pens?
Because this is one of the many problems the XO was designed to fix. It is the primary purpose for the camera, and why getting the camera was so important.
Additionally I am curious what it cost's to ship a ton of books to a remote area, vs 100 laptops. $100Laptops + internet access (or even CDs and mail to the school)+ Free e-books should pay for themselves fairly quickly.
If they are truly boycotting, then I assume they spend money. For commercial companies such as Novell this is supporting Linux.
Novell isn't a charity, and plans to get everything they spend returned. If people feel that mono is a waste of effort they can reasonably spend there money somewhere else such as Redhat (which als contributes a lot to the community).
In fact, these will probably be used by news stations. They can do even less reporting now.
"Think of the children, you think it's a game, but actually 'Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode 2 is a 'point-and-click' adventure game based on characters from the online comic Penny Arcade. Players battle enemies using a role-playing game style combat system, taking turns using fists and weapons to harm various robots and humans. Several cutscenes depict 'cartoony,' over-the-top instances of violence, including heads being blown off, characters sliced up by lasers, splattering blood and flying body parts. Humor is often based on bodily functions and 'by-products' (e.g., syringe injections full of urine) and sometimes sexuality (e.g., robots humping legs, testicles and taxidermy). The game also contains frequent use of strong profanity (e.g., "f*ck" and "sh*t").'"
Yeah, it really sucks for me that I can drop my land-line and people don't need to hesitate to call me because it cost's some absurd amount (based on calling card rate differences to France, I am guessing 7 cents/minute). I mean why would I want to have my only number work like everyone else's number?
For my $55/month I had 1500 minutes talk time, 400 texts, and lame internet (enough to get email). With the savings of not having a home phone I am not paying much at all, it comes with me, and people calling me don't pay extra.
I could up the texts for very little if I chose too, and the minutes too. I have not seen a price anything approaching this in Europe, even when incoming calls are "free" to receive.
I do admit, that I had to pay this price for a year in a contract, in exchange for not paying for the phone. So maybe I payed too much.
1) Let's see what comes out of China H/W wise before we take the first phone released, and blame HTC's choices on google. OpenMoko may even get Android OS.
2) Can I compile and distribute and application for the iPhone? I believed I had to go through the app store for it.

My 2 cents.
Funny how that works,
Try to make a comment about actual Jewish donations, and it is assumed you are making a joke about stinginess.

Yeah, because the standardized format of HTML lets anyone easily make a 100% compatible document.
I think there was one refresh since then.
And the problem lies specifically with the touches and the nanos.
I was trying to clarify:
Physical or electronic representations are protected by copyright, but the game (ruleset) can be patented (if innovative).
This should give you a decade or so to implement your idea without competition.
I believe you can patent a game.
But what is the cost of an hour of lawn mowing?

Special election within 90 days of resignation by Alaskan law.
Someone appointed their daughter, and spoiled it for the rest of 'em.
Isn't that what compile yourself means?
He/She didn't say run the compiler yourself.
at least 19 countries have space programs (according to the summery).
Are you implying that there are 1900 countries in the world? or are you including other worlds?
I can't find a list of the number of countries with space programs, but with at least 19, it is far closer to 10% than 1%.
Don't you need a Windows silence, or bootleg copy though?
I just checked through the AppDB and it appears to still be the case.
I would love to be corrected.
I meant $200, and still think it holds.

All of the consumer lines (I have owned) from every company have disappointed me.
This includes Macbooks, HPs, Dells, and IBMs.
Pretty consistently the business lines are decent, but you pay an extra couple hundred (worth it) spec for spec often.

I imagine they feel that assigning a number to the books is a creative act.
They use a system, that has some human judgment involved in picking that number.
For example, a list of books published can't be treated as property, but if I have a top 10 list I bet it could (speculation).
In Philadelphia they checked automagically, and the meters were inside/in-accessible.
Now I moved, and I get a note saying shrubbery blocks the meter once a month. They bill me an estimate.

I just took it and was not a libertarian.
In fact it listed me as a centerest, but towards the corner with libertarian and liberal.
I personally think of myself as fairly left with some libertarian beliefs, that seemed to be reflected at least.
It is incredibly loaded though. Why not, "Do you believe that everyone should be provided with basic health care.
Or even, "Would you like others to be treated so they don't spread their disease to your children".
I mean that would be the only fair way to ask it, think of the children.
