I actually think Faces of Death and Banned from Television predated the movement by movie studios (at least in the US, can't speak to other places).

I don't know if they count as snuff though people laughing and cheering as someone gets mushed by a train is to me more disturbung than the same for someones toe getting cut off for pretend.

I can't recall any movies that were like that when I was in high-school, but everyone had seen part of a faces of death.

DS or PSP owners almost always also own a console also. And, as far as that goes, consoles are still played more by several orders of magnitude.

So you are saying that TV based consoles are played approximatly 1000x (3 orders of magnitude) more than portable ones?

There are a whole lot of portable consoles, probably making up at least 20% of consoles (my flash is not working can't check vgchartz.com). for them to have 3 orders of magnitude less play than the PS2 (approximately 50%) sounds very unlikely.

My personal play habits are about 1/2 DS (more during TV season, when there is stuff my wife watches and I keep her company), 1/4 Wii, 1/4 GC. I play only an hour or so a day, so I am playing about 1/4 the average PS3 owner, and 1/8 DS to their PS3, but a whole lot of people need to take my 1 order of magnitude less and make it 3 orders less.

Isn't it more accurate to say patents on medicine provide the medicine to those who can pay?

In fact, after 15 years (not all that long) the patent goes away and a whole lot of people can afford it.

Patents on medicine re only problematic when preventing fighting an epidemic (futunatly the bootleggers take care of that).

It doesn't invalidate the analogy that P2P is more similar to ammunition for killing and not eating than it is to a hammer.

My understanding of the main problem with the black talons was that the doctors were cutting their gloves on them and it pissed them off, so if you use it on a person, make sure there is no hope for them. Otherwise, you may spread disease to a doctor whom is completely innocent.

I somehow think banning P2P is more like banning black talon ammunition because it is occasionally used to kill someone. If we want to make that argument all the mirror sites for legitimate distribution need to torrent together. This would make the torrent a viable alternative to http (probably better), more accurately distribute the mirror loads and put a lot of legit traffic on P2P.

FFS the fact that the site is called "The Pirate Bay" should be a big hint to the content.

I really hope they don't ban it though. I suspect that college students disproportionately represent seeders, and I want my stuff.

The PS3 sales are tracking PS2 world wide sales, only if you look here, you see the PS2 worldwide sales were Japan for a while (delayed US release). If we assume trends continue like last year, the toal Japan PS2 base is 22m (still growing quicker than PS3), putting the projected PS3 sales just ahead of GC, not matching PS2.

Our system is based on the premise that most things can be resolved between people with someone to oversee it and make sure it doesn't get out of hand. How is distributing XP with a virus different than distributing a music CD with one? You would have to prove malice or negligence though to receive damages.

    Price.

I stopped using Mandriva (was still Mandrake maybe) when I couldn't get the AMD64 build with my bargain basement club membership (in their defense they said it was worthless and not to get it).

I was building a new computer and buying OEM XP for $70.00, I realized I payed well over $100.00 for Mandrake, was still paying, and after many months still didn't have the version that ran native. XP was going to last me years, and Mandrake was another 60.00 every year (5.00/month).

I then pirated the full version of Mandrake, but never used it (or even burned) and the sour taste put me back on Windows for a while.

I now use Ubuntu exclusivly (except for TMPGEnc, which beat ffmpeg hands down for VCD compatible MPEG1 files). I like Ubuntu a lot, and am constantly impressed by it. I even use the default gnome over the highly customized KDE I used to use.

Before I got upset with Mandrake I had exclusively used it for a few years, and it was only recently we retired it at work for the servers. The complete freeness of Ubuntu makes a very compelling argument. I also trust apt for distribution upgrades far more than any RPM based systems I have used (based on my Debian expieriences and then Mandrake).

What I do like that I have seen in Mandriva is their insanely awesome build your own GUI 3D desktop.
