Hmm.. wonder how much effect this could have on satellites in low earth orbit.
From what I've read they already experience enough drag from the extreme edge of the atmosphere that there orbit needs boosting every so often (eg. the ISS).
Could this mean more boosts are needed? (decreasing the life of the satellite, or in the case of the ISS - making it more expensive to keep up there).
Maybe the first time global warming has caused an effect outside of the planet.:)
This reminds me of an online store in the UK called Jungle.com. In the user preferences there is a tick-box to stop them selling your information to third parties. They did a great job hiding it.
But the worst thing is, everytime you go back to preferences it is always unticked by default. So if you go and change your address and forget about it (naturally, as it's hidden) then suddenly your details are up for sale to anyone.
This wasn't that long ago, I'm not sure if they still do it. Because they wouldn't change it I don't shop there anymore.
They say governments involved will be invited to Redmond to meet w/ security engineers, and view testing procedures.
If this had been a James Bond movie... the goverment representatives would then be cloned! The originals held in a cage above a pool with sharks! (Maybe even with lazers!).
The clones would then go back to there governments and praise MS! Thankfully for us, we have James Bond to protect us!
That picture was taken on a bad night, with an ancient catalogue telescope that has a dirty mirror. The computer used to capture the frames was a pentium 133 running win95. Then put the image together using paint. I've scaled it down here. The camera itself was one of those tiny near-infra red security cameras.
I'm using a Linksys WAP11 (v2) and I'm getting a usable signal about 5 houses down the road. And that was with the built-in antenna(s).
I've since got a small omni-directional antenna put onto the roof, got it plugged into the same AP; I'm now getting a useable signal half-way across the town.
People seem to be getting excellent range out of very low power devices using fairly cheap antennas!
Pumping out more power will just increase interference with other 802.11 networks in the area. Not to mention it would almost certainly be illegal in the UK to use one of these things:)
I did just that. I dot tired of fighting with Windows and video card drivers.
Amen!
I've done this myself.
Do you find yourself using the console or the computer more now? When I had a lot more games on my machine I found I played more games than I do with the console. Maybe that's just me!
I've ogg'ed ExtremeTechs interviews and put them up here for a while.
Nothing fantastic but it's nice to hear people talking about things rather than reading it.
redhat 8.0 does have some nice fonts but generally the fonts used in the mozilla browsing experience just suck!
.
Try installing the XFT version of Mozilla
It's very easy to install, and looks amazing! It pains me to use any other browser on any platform. And I used to *hate* Mozilla's fonts.

Perhaps it's a glitch in the Matrix?
2.5 per 1000
:)
So it catchs 2 or 3 of every 1000 spam messages. My worry would be how many non-spam messages it catchs?
I'd hate it to tag any personal mail as spam
If you haven't already seen one, Iridium Flares are really quite impressive.

Is that GPL or BSD ?
Mmmm.. Ogg Banana...

They probabally dont give a crap about people stealing MP3s
You can't "steal" MP3's. Copying something is very different from stealing.
What the F*** is wrong with DALnet?
.. they are just encouraging users to get out more. Walking is good for you!
....
Nothing
Or so they say
I want software that actually RUNS!
Warning: Overclocking your hardware may cause instabilities. A water cooling system is recommended. Failing that, upgrade your CPU.
Now if it had been running wireless network protocols over an ultrasonic link, that would have been a geek's delight.
The Navy have had such technology for ages! Tho they only seem to support 'Ping' so far.
Wow, and I thought I was doing well. [piccy]

Spot the difference!
Lets take that moon into earth orbit, it could be fun.
Yes, we could play Moon Patrol on it!!
My computer said to me .... B.S.O.D. !!
The WAP11 (at least the one I have) allows just that. You can have access lists or deny lists.
I get 22Mbps all the time
Do you notice the extra speed over the standard 11mb/s stuff?
Trying to decide if it's worth upgrading now to 22Mb/s equipment, or wait a bit until 55Mb/s stuff matures a little.

My recieving antenna ain't to hot either
All this without an amp. A few small antennas, and little thought as to where to place them will normally give you all the range you need.
I don't like the idea of amps for 802.11.
:)

I have a hard time installing XP on a real machine.
digital rights management
Please remember that it's 'Digital Restrictions Management'.
I would guess that the popularity of DSL across the world is simply a side-effect of the popularity of Satellite TV.
Cable never really took of in the same way as the USA, so the only real option is DSL.
In the part of the UK I live in, cable is almost dead. So you'd think there would be a market for DSL. Well, not according to BT.
Monoply sucks!

erm.. oops. Scratch that.
Try here instead.
