it would be great if Apple could invent a device for this, maybe a pen-input type device where you can use your own handwriting, maybe with various pieces of paper put together for an almost endless screen, you could just flip the page when you ran out of room on once piece of paper, even tear pieces out when you wanted to move the information around. It would be cool if they invented a form of e-ink that leaks from the pen input device itself directly onto the page so there is no annoying flashing as the pixels are moved around. There's got to be a way to do this which won't use too much battery power and won't be too heavy... Someone should suggest this to Steve Jobs
I never said it was a flaw "in his argument". It's a flaw in the system. I think the judge's decision was good under the circumstances but that doesn't change the fact that these numbers are not based on anything real.
I understand that, but the point remains. $750 or $2250 has no relation to anything real. Nobody ever actually pays $750 for a song, and nobody actually loses $750 when a song is "stolen." These numbers are fictions.
Can actually be paid by whom? $54,000 is still hundreds of times higher than is reasonable by any stretch of the imagination, even assuming damages for distributing unlicensed content.
The WSJ spreads rumors about Iraq to protect it's interests. The WSJ doesn't spread rumors about Apple to protect it's interests. If this seems like a moral inconsistency, it is. That would presuppose the staff of the WSJ had any values.
They do. They value the proper use of the apostrophe!
They're discriminated against in the hiring process as well. I can't tell you how many hiring committees I've been on where we've only hired actual human beings. It's pervasive! I say we need affirmative action for corporations; level the playing field a bit, at least until we see more and more corporations in positions of power at corporations. True fact: nearly all corporate CEOs are actual human beings rather than corporations (Steve Jobs is the exception here).
Exactly. There's no need to change the Constitution; only to change the ridiculous torture of the English language that allowed corporations to be defined as "persons" in the first place.

Sorry, but anybody who voted for Obama thinking he was going to reform the freakin copyright laws is beyond delusional. Sure he talked about hope and change when comparing his approach to foreign policy and health care to the Bush Administration's, and we can justifiably criticize him for not delivering in those areas, but he certainly never promised hope and change for file-sharing or independent music production. Hollywood and the music industry have always contributed to both parties on these issues, and if anything the Democrats have been even more in their pockets than the party of war and ignorance. Don't get me wrong, the major parties disagree about some important issues, and I voted for Obama because of those issues, but when it comes to things like the basic distribution of wealth and the power of certain industries (the banks as well as the record companies), Democrats and Republicans always march lockstep with one another.

Spam isn't kosher anyway!
It seems you missed that the GP never explained the 2250, just multiplied the 2250 times 24. Thanks for your input though.
How the hell is a song worth $750? These numbers are pulled directly from sphincters.

am I still going to be reading Apple Tablet might-have stories on /. in 2015
Of course not! By then, you'll be reading them on your iPad.
Goldman Sachs paid less than 1% taxes last year. What individual rate are you paying?
That's moronic. What he said has nothing to do with restricting the right of people to assemble.
What the fuck? You're the only idiot who mentioned Nancy Pelosi.

someone inform Cheney of the news
Tiger Woods has bunions? Why wasn't I informed about this!
Find out who Tom Cruise is voting for. Vote for the other guy.
Jack Nicholson?

The FBI director's password was written on the back of the post-it note.
And if 5 years in jail seems excessive, it should take a look at the penalties for growing certain plants in your back yard.
Stupid rhododendrons....
RIAA copyright abuse is just as bad as brutality, war, and genocide! M. Godwin, spokesman, Slashdot.org
You spelled his name wrong; that's GNU/Stallman
It wasn't received well at all. It fell flat on the ground!
