It's official, guys, the Internet is dying. Don't you pay attention to Netcraft? Or at least read Usenet... the number of posts to usenet about the internet has decreased! I can't believe you can't read the handwriting on the wall. You're no Kreskin, that's for sure.
Wow, two posts in a row, neither one modded +funny.... have we finally reached the saturation point, where an easy crack about SCO license fees on every linux story doesn't lead to an automatic +5 funny?
That explains a lot. I have a few email addresses and shortly after I put two of them on a web page near each other they started getting email from each other. I started to worry that I was sleepwalking to my computer and sending myself invitations to look at porn.....

I doubt this is anything to do with them; it isn't their style at all, and as you say, they prefer the big bang effect. But it is quite possible that the virus writer, unconnected with al Qaeda, chose the date for its dramatic effect.
From my own experience any website that I have had defaced on me was because I failed to update 3rd party OSS packages. This had nothing to do with the security of of the operating system or the web server for that matter. It was only a security hole in one php script.
I think one could say the same about Windows, no? It has nothing to do with the security of the OS if hackers find vulnerabilities in a commonly used application (e.g. Outlook).
Coder continues: Good thing I'm a slashdot subscriber. That gives me a 5 minute head start!
That's your GNU/gnu, you insensitive clod!
It was renamed "SoBig."

Build a fence around the Microsoft Campus. The Great Wall of Redmond.
they're doing the OSS community some good by flicking SCO off their suit like an annoying little fly.

It was a DOS ATTACK on SCO. So, rather than SCO suing people for using DOS, hackers are installing DOS on computers running SCO Unix.
Fair enough. My guess for the release date?
CowboyNeal.
is that you have way too much free time on your hands.

Yeah but He used stolen source code from Osiris.
That's right. CUBITS and CUBITS of clay tablets.
Nah; It'll be called Swinux.
Actually, the first worms had nothing to do with javascript or ActiveX, and existed long before them.
This is why worms need to be open source. Proprietary worms do a disservice to the worm community!
yeah man where are all the blinkenlights?
