Another is that I don't want anyone else directly making money off my code - supporting it yes, but making it better and selling that, no.

Exactly how does the GPL prevent anyone from doing that? As long as they are willing to distribute any changes to the source, it is my understanding that under the GPL they can make your code better and sell it for as much as they like. (Of course, this is a Good Thing, IMHO).

Haven't done anything? Did you read the article? Smith went on a smear campaign against Linux. Wexler co-sponsored the bill that would have legalized computer sabotage by the entertainment industry. Now they are going to waste taxpayer money and divert resources badly needed in other areas to defending us from "piracy." While forming a caucus is not the end of the world, the caucus will be the most significant voice in the congressional debates over these issues, and it behooves democracy for citizens to demand that other perspectives be represented on the caucus.

Also it's one thing for Smith to represent MS's interests as the representative from that region, but it's another to act as their hired PR flak.

Safari, in its most recent incarnation, works well standards-wise, but one can really feel how different it and the Mozilla code really are (and I do like Moz better). It's also "slow". Camino is coming along well, but it too is "slow".

Usually when people put words in inverted commas it means the words are being used in a different way than is usual. So, by "slow," I assume you mean "fast."

I've actually found that most people come equipped primitive carbon-based CPUs that, while they aren't capable of fast calculations, are very good at basic p2p information sharing techniques. If you take advantage of the speech synthesizers which come standard in most people you can learn about their web searching habits rather directly, without sifting through logs. What's more, there exist places outside of the internet where lots of different people actually go to meet each other and engage in such p2p information sharing. I think they call it "conversation."
