(Added bonus: Local prosecutors wrote her college a note so she could get out of a chemistry test.) Casey gabs to potential predators on the phone. "Come on over, we're not going to get caught," she says. "If we got caught, I would get into trouble, and everybody would call me a slut, and I don't want that, either. I'll pay for your gas. It's no big deal, trust me. My dad gave me plenty of money for the weekend." When the guy fails to take the bait, her voice rises in pitch. "OK, fine, whatever, lame. L-A-M-E. You're being a baby. I don't know a lot about programming or security issues, so correct me if I'm wrong, but if the above is true, what I am hearing is that (1) OS X isn't as secure as I thought (as an unabashed Apple fanboy, I consider this a bad thing), (2) It's so insecure that Apple had to sacrifice some functionality in order to patch it (again, this is a bad thing, even though I've never heard of UPnP before today and have no idea whether I will miss it). BUT (3) In the end, this is all Microsoft's fault.

All I can say is... Sweeeeet.

  24. Re:They're getting smaller every day. on Truck-Mounted Laser Guns · · Score: 1

I'm no expert on the technology involved, but I'm guessing that if you know that incoming rockets/mortar are in the air with enough time to get the trucks in position and shoot them down with a laser, you also have enough time to get out of the way, and you probably already have a bead on the source of the fire. Any laser-equipped trucks with an actual ability to shoot down incoming missiles and objects will of course become the first target of any such attacks. I'm not saying this tech is useless, but I'm not sure it would change much in the long run.
