Are you kidding? We can't even learn from our mistakes! NASA lost the engineering specs for the Saturn V, and the people who built it are mostly elderly or dead... so we'd have to rebuild it more or less from scratch (making some of the same mistakes) if we wanted to replicate it today.

Well, in that case they can't possibly be concerned with revenue... if they don't want to reduce the number of patents granted, it can only be because patents are one of the few ways that the common man can defend himself against the evil corporations! Yeah, that it!

True, that's the argument that was used. But there's a teensy weensy difference: the Europeans were WRONG and ultranova is RIGHT. Do you seriously think there are indigenous "loonies" living on the moon who would be harmed? Tell you what, I'll make a deal with you: we go up and start mining, and if any locals complain, we pay them for the damage and pack up and go home.

we really need to be reinventing the shuttles as they are reusable, sustainable, and have much more cargo space.

Wrong on nearly all counts: yes, shuttles are (sort of) reusable, but they have a finite lifetime (a few dozen launches) and they require so much refurbishing that they might as well be rebuilt from scratch. Not quite sure how you measure sustainable, but refurbishing a shuttle costs more than building a Saturn V from scratch, so that's not exactly a win. And finally, a Saturn V can put over 100 tons into orbit; the shuttle can only put 19 tons in orbit.
