  1. Re:Arrogant bastards... on VeriSign Accuses Competitors Of 'Slamming' · · Score: 1

It amazes me people still use NetSol. Two hour hold times (if you don't get a busy signal), domain squatting, and problems transfering. What gets me the most is that they view domains as a phone number. They own it, we just pay for the right to use it. When that went down, I thought people would leave NetSol in droves. I guess the average consumer just does not care enough to find out who they are really doing business with.

Because people don't need to call them because they set up a domain years ago and it's been working just fine (such as myself). Most people don't need all these spiffy tools etc. - they just need their domain registered and working! Plus, no one wants to move their mission-critical domain to a registrar that has <2 years of being in business - especially with all these failing .COM's.

This being said, NetSol does suck in comparison to many of the new registrars. I think as these registrars get more mature, others such as myself will find ourselves looking elsewhere when we get our next yearly domain renewal notice.

BZZZ wrong. The M$ WORM for IIS that the origonal post refered to had a patch released TWO WEEKS AGO (I know because we patched). People just didn't patch their machines (neither did a lot of M$ departments either, ironically). I'm not trying to prove that linux is just as insecure as M$, but it's hogwash to state that M$ is so completely insecure in comparison.

And there are a lot of sites already using .NET. (Beta 2 is very stable, almost a release candidate - no where near "heavily beta"). For example, go to the boycott adobe site and try to buy something from them - their entire storefront is ASP.NET.

It's also BS that I get a flaimbait moderation when posting to an anti-M$ FLAIM that got modded up (but, although mine was purely factual and the other was sensational, since mine wasn't pro J2EE (which I personally like as well) I got modded down).

Common /., I'm not a religious zealot, and neither should you be one (esp. if you are moderating). I've built many solutions using Linux/PHP and Perl. I just choose what's best for the job. For my current business, .NET looks promising, and I'm sick of people bashing it without even knowing what it is other then the "hailstorm" initiative.

Security bugs? Yes, IIS has had and still has a HUGE problem with these rediculous buffer overflows, but it doesn't look like MSFT is the only one with recent major security problems.
Pay-to-play is a business decision, and is not an inherint attribute of .NET.

what are the chances that .Net vulnerabilities will have reprocussions across all Internet services and platforms?

What are the chances that the same goes for J2EE with Sun ONE? It's the nature of the interconnected beast.

Bend over and kiss your apartment, house, car goodbye.

I don't want to get into this but your post is factually incorrect. Every apartment building has some pot grower and the landlord doesn't even hear about it most of the time (my family has a LOT of Real Estate BTW).

Good music from LOCALS is good for the public, not over priced, over engineered crap. I know many musicans that have 0 to do with the RIAA, and are NOT negatively affected by any form of piracy. Musicians will always be around for the public at clubs, on the Internet, and at festivals - without the RIAA.
