    part of the problem is that people just talk about Free software and open source software as if they are all under the same licence. I think the guy is right in saying that you need to becareful. Consider the fate of a person who thinks he is using a BSD licenced app as a base for his own stuff only to reliaze it is GPL. Sure they are both open source and financially free, but you are not as free to do what you want with it under the GPL as you are with the BSD licence. It gets even more complicated when you have Mozilla licence, Apache licence, php licence , mysql licence and so on.

    I wonder if this will be like Sony's Xbox live killer. Also given how MS and sony will copy the innovation from nintendo rather than innovate themselves anyone else not surprised nintendo has been so secretive about the revolution. It also makes me wonder if sony is just waiting for the specs to come out so that they can tack it on the PS3

    you can't really patch social engineering and it isnt the fault of the OS is it? I am sure there are things apple can do to limit the damage, but once a person has entered the password voluntarily in sudo, there is really not much you can do to stop it.

    seriously if you have to manually download the program and enter your admin password, it is not a virus or a worm. I dont know why people keep calling it that. It is a Trojan and those have existed since the first rm -rf / script.

    Wasn't it supposed to be a national priority to encourage people to adopt HDTV?


    You do know what we are moving to HDTV right? it has nothing to do with TV. The government needs the spectrum used by analog TV for emergency services. They've been rumbling about this for years and 9/11 was just a catalyst.

    the real problem with gnustep is not gnustep it is GCC there is no objective-C++ compiler on non Mac platforms and it makes it very annoying porting applications from cocoa. GCC does not seem to be interested in accpeting objective-C++.

    considering i do cocoa and gnustep development and actually post on the gnustep groups, I could have told you that. However, look at how much GTK and QT development there is an compare it to gnustep. The problem with gnustep is you need gnustep to run any applications it is not just a tool kit. It's not like running evolution on kde without gnome.

    hello, not everyone starts college at 18. many people start at 17. you can graduate early if you take summer classes or AP credits. nothing spectacular.

    that only fixes the problem where it unzips automatically. It does not fix the icon issuse where there is a shell script with a Quicktime icon. The real fix to this would be to ID files based on the content and not the extension.

    no this is an exploit in the truest sense. However if you wanted to infect the machine, it still needs administrator password.

    this is true. I was impressied by how simple this exploit is. Hopefully they notified apple BEFORE announcing it and we will see an update soon.
