Outside talent always looks better. You leave after two years, becoming outside talent to someother organization, with a sigificant raise.
And as for loyalty that concept died sometime in 1985 in West Allis Wisconsin Simular deaths occured throughout the Midwest and Rust Belt.
While you're with a company, work your ass off, recognizing that at any time you can be let go or you can quit. There is no such thing as job security.
My guess is that he is going to light the candle today: 12/17/03 The last publicized flight was 12/4 , we've seen he's had the ability to turn it around in 5 days, he had a 11/14 and 11/19 flight. I'm thinking he had a 12/10 cold flow flight. His website acknowledged in the rocket motor update that they had validated and were ready for the two powered flights.
The only real question is how far up is he gonna go today.
All of this could have happend yesterday to give him time to be in Kittyhawk today. However he is not listed as a speaker at the event.
I think you may have your Rutans confused. We are talking about Burt the Engineer and successful entrepreneur, not Dick the test pilot. Burt designed the airplane that Dick flew around the world. Dick is not involved in the Xprize competition. He part of XCOR probably more as a figure head and test pilot.
If NASA had this problem they would have had to build a Wind Tunnel and finance the development of a Supercomputer, in the "correct" congressional district. Ensuring future funding of the program.
The F150 solution goes to show what the private sector can do, given the proper motivation.
The Da Vinci team is currently looking for Aerospace engineers and technicians. They've got nothing but a cool fiberglass mockup and a launch site.
Canadian Arrow seems to be stalled building their engine. They do have Astronauts, however.
Rutan has Astronauts, Engineers, and the FAA will give him his launch site or he said he's gonna launch from Mexico. Oh and he also has a working space craft. Give or take a trim problem or two.
Assuming that they are hosed, and will miss the all important December 17th date, they are still gonna beat NASA as the next manned flight from this continent:)
I'm not a fair weather fan, I bet they still have a shot at the 17th.
Wilbur and Orville had no idea of the kinda conflicts that they were going to cause for us geeks. I'm sure had they known they would have been happy to move it to the 18th.
I saw Rutan at Oshkosh this weekend . He said he was amazed at how expensive his program turned out to be. While he couldn't reveal the exact dollar amount only that it was as expensive as one Hour of science on the ISS.
Oh and for those of you who were wondering the sigificance of N328KF. 328,000 feet is the goal.
IMHO he is close, real close. If I had to pick a date it would be 10:35 AM December 17th 2003.
My money is on Rutan I saw him this week at EAA Airventure. It sounds like he is real close. According to Rutan the best reason for XPrize is the children. He says "We cannot afford to bore our children"
I attended a talk given by Rutan (at EAA Oshkosh) back when the XPrise was announced. He said he's gonna win it and once we see his solution, we will be amazed at how simple it was. Now that was back in 1996, since then he has built Proteus which was just a prototype for The White Night He's been thinking about this for quite some time. I bet he takes the prise this year.
I can hardly wait to hear what he is gonna say this year at Oshkosh His talks are always entertaining and insightful.
I recently attended a talk given by JPL's Nagin Cox, she worked on the Galileo project for 5 years.
Regarding Amalthea flyby, she said that it was very likely that Galileo was going to be toasted by Jupiter's magnetic field. That's why Galileo went in to the flyby already lined up for the September 2003 Jovian Kamikaze Mission. The fear was that once it became a flying toaster they wouldn't be able to control it, they'd rather have it burn up in Jupiter's atmosphere rather than risk contaminating a moon.
We'll all be so much safer. I'm glad MS is trying to help me. Maybe next they will help us with our Crime and Drug problem. I bet this technology can be applied to take guns out of the hands of criminals, why I bet it will make smile whiter and brighter. . . .:|

You make your own security.

I'm glad someone else picked up on it.
And the Trees were all kept equal by Hatchet, Ax, and Saw.

Rutan is gonna win this thing on December 17th.
I meant what I said and I said what I meant.

I'm taking bets on how long before the DMCA is invoked against him!

The way I heard it Orville told the CAA to go take a flying leap through a donut hole when they offered him Pilot's License #000001
Only NPR would be thrilled to learn of who was the first person regulated to do something.
Based on his completed photos, I think it looks great! And I've spent a lot of time with 'glass so I know from where I speak.

Yep. I meant 146.64, I hope this little mix up doesn't lower my Karma.
The WVRA is holding our Field Day at Man-Made Lake. The public is welcome to stop by.
Talk-in will be on the 164.64 (pl 114.8) Repeater.
I had no problems with it. Under Netscape on a Sun workstation.
