  1. Re:I hate to be condecending... on Man-Made Atomic Clocks the Best In the Universe · · Score: 3, Informative

It is more accurate to say that mass affects space by bending it. Light though it is traveling in a straight line follows the curves in space. A good starter example would be taking a thin rubber surface, like a baloon and drawing graphing paper like lines on it. If you stretch it out and place a heavy metal ball in the middle it will sag and the once straight lines will now appear to curve around the ball.

Though incomplete this example explains gravity pretty well.

  2. Re:How much for the artists ? on UMG To Price New CDs Under $10 · · Score: 1

How could you not need those even on the internet. How did you hear of the artist? How did you download their music? What mechanism allowed you to pay for it (securely)? The business model is changing, not the fact that it is a business and requires coordination beyond the scope of an indiviual who can sing.

  3. Re:Is that a roundabout way to censor? on Aussie Gamers Dress As Zombies To Raise R18+ Awareness · · Score: 4, Insightful

It seems to me that the actual intent of these laws is to create censorship, so I think it's more of a "mission accomplished" feeling for those behind this.

  4. Smart kids learn more than dumb ones on Study Finds That Video Games Hinder Learning In Young Boys · · Score: 1

I think that the perception that students who study less learn less is slightly flawed. While it should hold true for students at the same level of intelligence. In a school setting there is a wide array of students. An intelligent student who studies less than an unintelligent student will still probably learn more, depending on the difference in their intelligence. TFA lists 64 test subjects. That seems like a small sample size to assume that the individual IQ's of the subjects has no effect on the study. I'm using the definition of intelligence as the capacity for learning, reasoning, understanding, and similar forms of mental activity; aptitude in grasping truths, relationships, facts, meanings, etc (from dictionary.com). I understand that every child is a special snowflake, but some are smart and some are not.

  5. What am I missing on OnLive Remote Gaming Service Launches In June · · Score: 1

On newer HTPC's (which if they are using 720p seem to be the target for a service like this) Adobe flash and other applications can run into CPU bottlenecks rather easily. Even if there are a whole lot of people out there that want this service, it seems entirely dependent on OnLives ability to squeeze blood from the stones that are super-efficient processors like Intel ATOMs. Though, Adobe has shown cleverness in shifting some of the load onto GPUs in Flash 10.1 beta, will Onlive be able to deal with that stacked with network latency as huge bottlenecks.

Magic?? Are the same gremlins that steal left socks from dryers also invloved the iPad's development? If so, Apple owes me some socks.

  7. Don't most MMO operate like this? on Sony Joins the Offensive Against Pre-Owned Games · · Score: 1

Isn't this proposed Sony model closer to the way Blizzard and friends work their MMOs. If I buy a copy of WoW, I can't resell it. The copy I bought is tied to my account even after my account is cancelled. You can't legally sell your account (which is argubly what you were paying for in the first place) because it is against their ToS. I'm not saying that I agree with Sony. I think it's like trying to squeeze blood from a stone when they should instead be innovating and developing new ideas, but I'm suprised that everyone is so angered by a model that has been around for a while.
