I didn't mine the entire site but on the front page and on the site map page I didn't see any link at all to send email to the site author/owners. I just wanted to send them a polite 'piss off'...
My 'ole daddy was a policeman and I grew up knowing that most bad guys who got caught got caught because they were stupid and not because the cops were especially smart. The cops know and depend on this fact.
I don't know why it would be any different with the terrorists.
Keep learning and diversify as much as you can. Be interested in the type of business you work for, even if it doesn't seem to apply to your job.
My employer (an insurance company) would rather have competent programmers who have a deep understanding of the insurance industry than brilliant programmers who aren't interested in the business.
There's no particular need for programmers here to have insurance certifications but the bosses take notice when you do.
No kidding! Through all the news about AT&T, Comcast, et al my service has been completely reliable. I just got a notice yesterday that my email address will be changing (BFD, don't use it anyway) and that if I use DHCP (I do) I shouldn't notice any change other than perhaps having to reboot on the 19th.
Okay, I'm a Mac user - have been from the start. I'm also well known at work as a militant MS-hater. Alas, of the 400-some people who work in this building, I'm the only one (that I know of) who is a major Mac fan.
Right after Christmas I started carrying my new iPod around and was surprised at how many people already knew what it was, who made it, and thought it was way cool.
In the last week, several people have solicited my advice about the new iMac. More than a couple are seriously considering one for home.
In my experience, this is big. Apple is making some waves recently and the PC users are paying attention. Not the uber-geeks who work here but the ordinary folks who don't live and breathe computers.
I disagree. Many of the virus problems that have plagued MS are because they included features along with brain-dead defaults that made it easy for viruses to propagate.
For example, hiding known file name extensions by default often tricks users into launching an executible attachment when they think it's a jpg or somesuch.
For example, executing code automatically, especially in preview windows was a stupid default.
The list goes on and on. The bottom line is the features and defaults were seemingly determined by marketing personel.
LOL - encrypted? That wouldn't do a bit of good since the first thing half the company does now on payday is print their paystubs on the shared network printers. I've found more than a few laying in a printer tray waiting to be picked up.
Ended the practice of handing out paper paycheck stubs a couple years ago and instead started sending them through email. What format? Why, MS Word of course!
I pitched a fit and a scant 10 months later they changed them to HTML files.
Of course, it's still stupid. It's a freaking pay stub! A couple k of TEXT - send the damn things as text files.
The "Start" point on MacOS has always been the hard drive icon in the upper left corner.
I'm sure you meant to say 'upper right corner'.
I've never understood why MS lets you put the task bar at the top of the screen (which I prefer) but even their own apps aren't smart enough not to hide their title bar under it. Talk about aggravating!
When they stop supporting old boxes, they are going to piss off a LOT of people who paid for a lifetime subscription. Let us not forget the lifetime sub belongs to the box, not the subscriber.
The 100% warranty on TiVo is only 90 days so it's not that big a deal.
What's worse is a gift that costs $10 a month for as long as you want to use it. Now, if you got a lifetime sub for the TiVo's and gave them as a gift that would be wonderful.
Of course there are differences. Pop over to the TiVo forums - http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/ - where there are plenty of people who have multiple PVR's of different makes. They'll be happy give you a feature comparison.

OTOH, that could be why there isn't such a link.

Well...
1) Being interested isn't the same as acting interested.
2) It's an industry that makes lots of money and (in my experience anyway) pays their professionals very well.
Since my goal in life these days is to make as much money as I can in a standard 40 hour week, this meets my definition of a good job.

I would guess Timothy Berners-Lee.

Pushing the limits of journalistic credibility?
Wow, I took it as an opinion piece and as such Katz is certainly entitled to his own.
Have you not located that little checkbox that keeps you from seeing the Katz articles?

I say, way to go Apple - keep it up.
Effective a week ago yesterday, OS X is the MacOS.

Firewire is nice but not the iPod's main selling point (for me).
What is, is that it fits in my shirt pocket, holds *enough* music to keep me interested, and has a battery that lasts all day and then some at work.
This Riot gizmo - notice how they don't tell you how much it weighs or place anything in the photo to give you a sense of scale?
Even though it would be nice to have more storage, I think I'll keep my iPod for now.
You can't fool me. A quick drive around Sarasota is enough to confirm that everyone in Canada is wintering in Florida!
... until about Easter. Be sure to spend all your money before you head back north.
On the other hand, we do want you

I got a cassette adapter for car use for my iPod and it works very well, much better than I expected.
As for charging it, the battery lasts more than 10 hours and I almost never spend that much time driving so I'm not even worried about that!
Your TiVo has VCR in/out plugs. Plug the TiVo into the TV and the VCR into the TiVo. Works for me.

I have nothing deep or insightful to say except "Thank You, Google".
What acronyms? All I see are abbreviations.
Sykes is laying off and consolidating right now.

Wonder if that has impacted their XBox support? Could be just a temporary blip while they get their support staff realigned.
heh - only until the G5 becomes available.

Why not just put the extracted drive in a computer?
