    If someone screwed ME over that badly, I wouldn't kill my self. That's silly.

    If someone ruins your life without provocation, take the bloody revenge you are due. It needn't be murder, which after all ends suffering instead of inflicting it. If a "Madoff" trashed my life, I'd be satisfied by blinding him. The justice system is no deterrent, the rich run the world, but they are made of meat like the rest of us. It doesn't take a badass to take vengeance, just the choice not to let someone else ruin you and go unpunished. If there were a credible threat of revenge, that would be a deterrent to corruption. No lawyer can save you from someone absolutely willing to take you out.

    There is, it should be noted, no reason NOT to oppose a religion or all religions on their own lack of merit.

    The idea that superstition should be respected is silly, and it would be easier to break the hold of superstitions if we were much more comfortable treating them with the contempt such ridiculous beliefs deserve. Religions attacking each other is healthy, because it highlights their defects and their tribalism.

    I find it unfortunate. That's the ONLY thing which will force lusers and PHBs to take security seriously because, unlike merely parasitic malware, a nuked system isn't fun to play with any more. A fish can still swim with a lamprey attached.

    People will develop tasty algae (or whatever) and mass-produce it if it's worthwhile. Economies of scale make devoting time to grow it at home mostly useless except as a hobby.

    There is zero reason that the world should be dystopian in order to be "green". It will take a bit of work to develop and maintain, but so does our current, polluting lifestyle.

    The Soviets being theism-free was a plus that didn't negate their badly planned economy and other problems that go with a system run by a string of people (such as Stalin) without education appropriate to running a modern state. Their scientists were subordinate to ideology, hence Lysenkoism and other nonsense.

    So is security classification. Perhaps we should not have any such, and trust everyone with everything. Surely the world will embrace our example and instantly do likewise.

    Government employees, military and civilian, are subject to NDA regarding classified information. Naming names is desirable to those who want to expose everyone involved in classified ops, but not necessarily required for the public to be entertained.

    Thirty dollars an hour to make light bulbs is insane. That isn't just a matter of cheap foreign competition, but overpriced labor that is a hangover from very different economic times.

    A long, fat heatsink base would appear to be in order rather than relying on the fixture.

    There is little point in retrofitting an old factory when there is so much available industrial space elsewhere.

    Buildings are cheap, old buildings come with horrendous maintenance costs, and clearing out worthless obsolete equipment is expensive. It would be cheaper to simply build another factory or use existing space in an area of the US with lower wages.

    In China, that outcome has resulted in a prosperous China well on its way to being a superpower, and as China becomes more prosperous it becomes more liberal.

    What do you think would have happened to striking workers when Mao was still in power??

    There is no guarantee of prosperity. Competition is required, and no legal construct will make that not so.

    The reality of competing with cheap workers will require a reset so our workers become cheap. Productivity is high with few workers, but if more workers are to have jobs, they will have to work for less, live less well, and be like the rest of the world.

    The main reason the US did so well for so long was it was the "last country standing" after WWII, which was the best thing ever to happen to the US economy.

    Smart people will still make money from their ability to write software, and software freedom benefits all, except those no longer making a profit from patents.

    Citation needed out of curiosity...

    Embraer make some excellent aircraft so saying it's "specifically" to get around ITAR rather than to expand a domestic industry with an outstanding aircraft "form factor" for tactical operations AND civilian transport using primitive airfields is questionable.

    The platform could be a terrific seller, with most of the money staying in Brazil. Four engines are no longer required for redundancy (though they are nice to have), so going to two turbofans makes sense.
