    While VB is easily maintainable, it is also a weak language. On the other hand, the great languages, C/C++, Perl, Java (although it's a real bitch), they may be complex, but you can make an honest to god rocket control system with any of them. Anyways, we dont want missiles that GPF on us, do we? {=

    Maybe in the courts, it would be useful for judges to have a program to help them figure out what the best sentence for a crime is, but on the streets? It just does not make any sense.
    Equip the police with a computer in each car, with some sort of map/gps program to help them in chases or something, get updates on criminals, but keep the judges in the courtrooms.
    All it takes is a few wrong answers on purpose, and you have yourself a police state.

    neither is it Napster's fault, nor the fault of the format's creator, that people abuse the two by trading copyrighted music by mp3. anyways, because it's almost impossible to get an entire album via Napster (I tried, decided to spend the $30 or so for the two different CDs), people will still be buying CDs. There's also a giant rom market out there... is Nintendo, Sega, or Sony doing anything about it? No, even though they know about it. i have a band, and when we finally get around to making an album, we will probably release half of the songs as mp3s. without any encryption bullshit.

    Almost anyone with the power to control what people can and cannot see will block anything that they don't like or they fear will open the people's eyes to their mistakes, views (if they aren't staus quo), etc.
    I forget who said this but it is very fitting: "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."
    Censorship is evil, and it should be against the law for any censorware manufacturer to keep their lists secret.

    I find that playing vioent games like Half-Life or Quake are good for relieving stress, except when Windows crashes while I am playing...
    After playing something like Half-Life for a while, the chances of me getting into fights and the like at school are drastically reduced. All this report is is more of our backwards society's pop psychology.

    Amen to that. I hate those damn popups. But there is a way around it - turn off scripting. That's right, without JavaScript and/or VBScript those popups can't really happen (as far as I know). Maybe also a law against AOL would be nice...
    As for making porn sites illegal or having censorware shoved down our throats, it's time for another violent bombing (seeing how the Washington Fascists like throwing the police at everything)...

    If I remember the storyline, it was CSM and his "pals" who saw to it that Kennedy was killed, and some other nasty stuff... The space program, it is real. For there to be some conspiracy, that means that throught the cold war, the USSR (these days Russia and all the former SSRs) and the USA would have had to be secretly in cahoots with each other, which I seriously doubt. But as it is right now, there is not enough funding for space travel and exploration. I suspect it's the same corruption in most public agencies (the people in charge using the budget on themselves). It's time to form an international space organization, whether or not under the UN banner. Anyways, maybe it's time to move towards a united world government... But first, we would have to bring down the corrupt and evil regimes that are in control right now.

    That's a pretty interesting idea. But forget credit card CDs. Complete smartcards could be used to store stuff for us. We will need better smartcards first however... Just wait 5 years. All your ID, and your bank balance and everything will be on a smartcard... All criminals will need is your PIN and they will have access to everything. But what about encryption? Maybe the PIN number should be used to encrypt the information, and we should be allowed to use a-zA-z0-9 in a 8 digit field. That means there would be 62power8 different combinations... Keeping our data secure to pretty much everyone, I guess.
    What do you guys think? And how did we get to this anyways? (=

    It's just that I use Windows 98 (not by choice). On this thing, everything is slow and horribly buggy. So because of that, I guess I became some sort of "clean freak" who has to make everything as fast as possible.
    When I finally have the money to buy my own box, I will be using something much better (i.e. anything but OS/2). Then, I guess I won't have to worry about speed any more. (=
