I'm affraid I disagree. I am no expert on hardware or OS's by any means but in the last six years I have spent developing software I have seen more problems with the so called stable system know as the SPARC platform. I have seen more SUN products shipped back to the manufacturer than any intel box. From what I understand SUn used to make rock solid servers and a rock solid OS. What I have seen in the past few years from SUN is exactly as you put it a schoolyard bully who looks for any chance to sue any possible competitor. I think that this practice of legal search and destroy they have taken as seriosly effected thier product line and the quality of work they produce. All you have to do is look at the turn over rate in thier engineering department. Any rate I hope they grow up and start treating the open source community with a little more respect and start focusing on creating new technology not just sueing as many so called pattent infringers as they can. I mean really the only thing SUN has going for it is java and they can't even manage that as a real product. Face it SUN is washed up if it wasn't for the few large enterprises that they have been in bed with for years they would be chapter 11 right now. In other words SUN GROW UP you fucking babies. Get back to your engineering and fire your legal depertment becuase there is more to this industry than winning the next pissing match with M$.

To think that a university did not have to sell it's soul to get that license would be folly. For instance the business school at the University of Colorado has full licenses for all M$ Office products and for this license the business school is not allowed to teach any other spread sheet or word proccessing tools to thier students. So they pay for those licenses all right, not only do they pay but so do all the sudents you get thier education short changed by M$.

wait you just compared getting kernel support for linux to getting support from MS? uh? what? how can you compare the two? "Even if you somewhat know what you are talking about, you risk going thru 2 to 10 emails telling you all the obvious things" i'd rather go through that many emails than go through that many phone calls. and you got an answer. after paying for those phone calls you still wouldn't even get the problem fixed let alone get MS to admit it's a problem. Lastly you were looking for kernel support, if not i'm not mistaken there is no such thing for MS. so i'm afraid at any level it does NOT make ANY sense. this sounds to me like an MS consultant case. MS consultants are placed at high profile engineering schools to pump out just this kind of false info. f**king MS god I hate you, you bastards.

  11. Why is he the only one who gets to decide? on Library Of Congress Will Not Digitize Books · · Score: 1

How is it possible that one person can decide the fate of all the information pertaining to our Federal Government?
Shouldn't there be a commity that decides these kinds of things?
Perhaps he is afraid that he will not be able to keep tabs on all the people that download this information. Or maybe he see's his job and the jobs of his fellow co-workers at the library becoming obsolete? Whatever the case I think Bill needs to have his head examined. Also if they are putting some information online why not all of it? I really do not see the rational behind his explinations. The most I got out of his comments was that he did not want the precious information in the library to be tainted by the media. His statments to me show his incredable lack of knowledge. He seems to think, and even compares, the internet to television and radio. I don't what hole this guy has been under but the internet has been the meduim for valuable scientific data long before it was tainted buy "seductive" banner ad's. The only logical reason Bill would have for making such remarks is a serious hidden aggenda, and his postion should be reconsidered if he is not willing to give access to this information to anyone and everyone, through and meduim desired.
