  1. US Government... on Nanosatellite Takes Out The Trash · · Score: 3

I'm surprised the US government hasn't invested in these babies to take out the occasional spy satellite:

Mission Control: Sir, the nanosatellite is now in position...

The commander puts his coffee down on a red button sticking up from the panel. Suddenly the nanosatellite attaches itself to a Soviet spy satellite

Commander: Ooooops. I didn't mean to do that. It was an accident, I swear! I'm just going to call my commanding officer and tell him that the mission was a succ.... I mean, that I should be demoted in rank for wasting a 100000 dollar piece of equipment... yes, that's it...

  2. This is cool, but... on Nanosatellite Takes Out The Trash · · Score: 1

This is very cool, but since it's fully automated, what can be done about a power source? It's obviously not solar-powered, and the gas supply would run out pretty quickly, I gather.

Other than that, I'm sure this is a cool project. It's too bad no one's interested, because there is so much space junk out there. Relatively soon people will have to be interested, when it becomes dangerous taking anything up there!

  3. THe Paranoid View... on Gnucash v1.4.0 Released · · Score: 1

So, now that everyone is making Windows-type applications or porting them right over, what's to keep Linux from becoming a Windows clone?

I know this is frequently mentioned, but it's very valid.

With KDE and GNOME, the desktop is almost as easy as Windows. Will there be a time when there's no distinction? IMHO, KDE and GNOME are already bloated pieces of software. I know Linux needs them for advancement into less-computer-literate groups, but there's a price to pay.

Linux could end up just like Windows (albeit cheaper).

    Just offering a paranoid view,

But I really hate the fact that all the good game companies are being bought out by MS. I wonder if the employees at Bungie are happy or sad?

Well, at least for every game company MS buys, about 3 decide to port their games to Linux. I just wish Microsoft would STOP.

I really don't see what the government can have against Napster. THEY don't actually distribute MP3s, they just connect users, much like ICQ. What if people start distributing MP3s through ICQ en masse, will Mirabilis be sued? The most I could really see happening is a strange type of accessory to the fact. In summary, I don't see that the Napster people actually did anything illegal, it's the users connected to their servers passing files illegally between each other.

They should have designed it outside of the US then no one would be suing anyone! They'd be scotch-free! =P

I have a GSM phone, and I have friends with CDMA and TDMA phones, all at the same frequency. We can be in a room together and I notice no interference, although the only real difference between the phones is their software/protocol/codec.

So, do thew rules change at 2400 MHz? Do devices interfere just because they're at the same frequency? Are sloppy codecs involved? Are the protocols messy?
