  2. Computer Case. on Lego Institutes Bulk Ordering · · Score: 1

That's my answer. I'd build the ultimate line of computer cases I could sell. Of course, if they made the clear-blue 4x2x1 blocks, I'd use those. Maybe they will. If I could get more specialized parts, maybe I could make them even cooler. It would give people a lot of reason not to whack their computers anymore! Or drop them for that matter... Whoa, that would be cool.

  3. Human Error. on When Background Checks Go Wrong... · · Score: 1
Despite all of the technology advancements we've had to date, it still all boils down to human error. Humans design and use the harware and the software.

    Possible errors:

    Program Bug

Human error writing to data file

    Human error reading data file

    Mistaken identity

    User incompetency

    Hacked. =P

Either way, the problem could probably easily have been avoided. It really is a shame that this sort of thing happens all the time.

The best solution is a full e-integration. For example: my Ontario driver's licence has several failsafes. It has my license number and photo that humans can read, then it has a barcode ID for computers, and a magnetic strip for computers. This leaves little area for human error in reading the data (unless the license doesn't belong to a human).

  4. Oh Puhleez! on Adobe Sues MacNN Over Photoshop Article · · Score: 1

Oh please! That is complete BS. This PhotoShop version is just like the former ones. And that context sensitive toolbar near the top is just plain ripped off from Corel. Corel deserves a little more respect than it is getting lately.

Here Adobe, getting free PR, and they're suing! Unbelievable. Man oh man, that American suing system either has glitches in it or is majorly overused.

The fact that there's no innovation also must have had something to do with it. GIMP is the only graphics program I see real progress in. The Lens flares aren't perfect, the UI is very hard to use (IMO, I'm a Corel Guy), but it's a GOOD program. Go Gimp!

Well, Microsoft is perfectly entitled to an appeal, just like any other court case. The only thing is that most people appeal to lower the sentence, and I hope Microsoft doesn't have some strange compromise planned. If they do, the already volatile split situation may become a little more stable and sway Microsoft's way. That'll be the day. Yey. I'm going to go play... Hooray. I'm a poet and I didn't even know it. Okay, I'll shut up now.

I've seen some people talk about SimCity. I think the best one was in the first version of SimCity 2000 for the Mac. There were dozens of these. My favourite was 'porntipsguzzardo' which gave you a LOT of money and all the buildings. Too bad it didn't work on the PC...

My second-favourite is on the PC, where minesweeper would change the color of a pixel if there was a mine under the box the pointer was over. I would really amaze people when I could finish impossible games. That was fun... yes, I have noticed recent games don't really have easter eggs... =(

I am for this. It would be nice to watch QuickTime video with software created by another company. I don't know about the rest of you, but on my old P233, the Sorensen Codec movie trailers don't go too well! The video takes up so much CPU power that it doesn't play very well at all unless the audio is turned off...

If the situation also applied the other way, perhaps we could expect QuickTime for Linux some time in the not so distant future, bundled with RealPlayer or something... THAT would be cool...

  10. Interference, Interference... on Cell Phone Usage on Airplanes == Bad Idea · · Score: 1

Alright people. Everything causes interference. Everything has an infinite field, whose strength is dictated by 1/r^2. There's more invisible frequencies out there than most people can imagine. The point is that most electronics really are not that sensitive to noise.

For example, has anyone ever considered why laptops are not allowed during liftoff on an aircraft? People here are saying interference this, interference that. Ever consider that it is just for the safety of the person, so that heavy objects aren't flying all over the inside of the plane during a shaky takeoff?

This brings up another important point. Planes do fly over cell phone towers. There are several posts saying that the towers are not directional, and yes, they do have an up to 35km radius on them. And yes, they do put out massive RF traffic in all directions. However, what people don't seem to see is that the towers do not put out much RF traffic in a specific direction unless they are transmitting to that location. Therefore, no cell conversations on planes, minimal radiation. At least, that's how I think it works!

But seriously, this could be cool. Maybe it will even lead to some breakthroughs with communicating with dolphins?! Or not. =)

It could be as simple as using credit card info. Presumably, the 9 bucks (that's 6 bucks US, BTW) would be payed by Credit Card. When credit card orders go through, I know that some customer info is listed. I know that name is one of them, but I'm not sure about adress. I'm sure that if they use a Canadian bank for the credit card stuff they can check if the parent account for the card is of local origin (I mean, if I go out of country, the machines know to convert the money, right?). So that's how it could be done.
