Whats wrong with just saying 70 sextillion? Whats this million million million shit, and why 70,000 of them? May as well say 70 thousand million million million then, but it sstill stupid. 70 sextillion is shorter, and easier to say.
You know how there are beta's (well, the Developer Preview) of MacOS X 10.3 "Panther" ?
Well, some time ago, before the release of MacOS X 10.2 "Jaguar" there were also beta's and developer previews.
MacOS X 10.1 "Puma" had a spinning rainbow CD like thing.
MacOS X 10.2 "Jaguar" has a spinning rainbow disc like thing; it doesn't really look like a CD or DVD like the one in Puma did.
But the beta's of Jaguar had a spinning blue blob. Infact, it looked damn awesome, and i loved it. I was really disappointed that they removed it:(.
I am not sure if you can find any pictures of it on the web, but i believe there may have been on some of those machints or macrumors sites that talk about the new things in the next release of Mac OS X and supply some 50 screenshots.
So thats where the blue blob comes from. Perhaps he is running a beta of Jaguar and is not even aware of it?
Get over your stupid imperial system, and get a fucking clue.
Next thing you'll tell me that Analogue computers, and Analogue Phones, and Analogue TV is better then digital, and that you rather watch VHS then DVD, and prefer Vinyl to CD. You're all wankers.
After seeing the Architect, Morpheus asks Neo what he told him, and Neo said "It doesn't matter." Basically, Neo was too embarassed to admit to Morpheus that he was at the very heart of the matrix, talking to its creator, the architect of the matrix, trying to get some real chicken! (not that damn computer emulated crap thats in the matrix, and quite possibly has the taste wrong!)
At least thats the running joke here.
If you don't get it, well.. the architect looks VERY much like Colonel Sanders (of KFC). Maybe you don't get to see him much, but for whatever reason theres usually a picture of him at KFC's in Australia, and he (well, his cartoon version) appears in just about every KFC ad.
So yeah. Neo was talking to Colonel Sanders, and was after some Hot and Spicy Chicken, or perhaps some Crispy Strips:)
Thats what we figure, anyway.
What does this mean? How does it fit in with the rest of the movie, and the next movie? How should i fucking know; Neo was hungry and thinking with his stomach, and was too embarassed to admit it to Morpheus:)
When does Win2k or WinXP (or any NT based OS) ever crash? If it does, its most likely a hardware issue (bad ram?) or buggy 3rd party driver (video drivers for latest 3d cards and scsi drivers have caused me problems in the past).
Win95 was the buggiest crashiest piece of dog shit ever. Win98 was no better.
Their websites don't even support safari! It loads up fine, then you suddenly get redirected to a page saying sorry, your browser is not supported, with links to IE, Netscape, and Opera.
wtf?!

Jupiter isn't really a failed star... a failed star is a "brown dwarf", jupiter is merely a gas giant. Where exactly brown dwarfs lie is kind of hard to know exactly (astronomers still debate this)... but somewhere around 15x jupiter mass you would have a brown dwarf, and if you keep going beyond that you will soon reach the minimum size required for a star.
This has been beaten to death already. Can we get over the stupid metric jokes? And if your going to do them, can you at least get them RIGHT?
I am quite positive that ESA would use metric, and infact, NASA uses metric too.
Why did we lose the Mars Climate Orbiter? Precisely because NASA *does* use Metric, but NASA's outsourcing to Lockheed Martin, unfortunately, doesn't. American coroporations persist on using ye olde system, while NASA infact DOES use metric.
So don't pay out NASA, they did it right. Lockheed Martin fucked this one up.
This is supposed to be new news??? This is like 7 years old! Cassini has been mentioned on slashdot numerous times, and the fact that Cassini-Huygens is en route to Saturn is pretty common knowledge... why suddenly make a story about it now, as if NASA only just launched this beast...
Infact there was alot of Cassini news on slashdot (and other sites) when Cassini did its Jupiter flyby, alowing us to examine and study jupiter from 2 vantage points... Cassini on its flyby, and Galileo in orbit.
Anyway. This'll be fantastic news once Cassini does approach Saturn, and inserts itself into orbit!
I have a Holdem Commodore VR Acclaim, and am so lucky to have a line in input right on the front of my car stero!
I just connect the ipod to it, and play away for hours as i drive:)
My GF's Holden Commodore VX S-Pack has an Cdplayer in her car, and no line-input:(. So we have to burn mp3's to audio cds to listen in her car. It sucks:(. It won't play CD-RW cd's either:(
Why don't car manufactures make line-input standard???
No one needs a GF/Finace that forces you to put your computers in the basement. Thats just not on.
You certainly don't want to marry and spend the rest of your life with someone that doesn't accept your geekiness and need for computers.
My gf lets me have my own "geek pad" in her house. Its where all my geeky stuff is, and i spend alot of time there, even tho my geekyness does spread into the house.
I often use my laptop (powerbook!:) in the bedroom or lounge room, and we also have a network cable coming into the lounge room for the xbox, AP (so its more central in the middle of the house) and to her sons bedroom where a PC is.
So even tho most of my stuff is in the geekpad, i still have stuff spreading out through the house.
The best thing is, she accepts me the way she is.
BTW: I have the geekpad because i wanted it, not because i was forced into it like you were forced into your basement.
This is a common problem, and is not specific to Mac OS X. If your father had been running windows, your neighbour would find your fathers windows shares on his Windows or Mac OS X box.
The solution? Firewall.
Read up on ipfw. Its the nice firewall FreeBSD uses and Darwin/OSX has it too.
A few simple rules (default to deny etc) and you will be locked down tight.
Ah, yes, the personal ethics system -- your morals are yours, mine are mine. So you're telling me it's OK to stuff Jews in a gas chamber?
"Ah, but that's different!"
Yes. Yes it is different.
One involes killing people, the other doesn't. Most reasonable people are against killing humans. But then you've got Saddam, Al Qaida, etc, who obviously see things differently and WOULD say that it is fine.
You need to use reason to explain why I'm wrong.
Um.. HUH? Why do i, or anybody else, need to explain and provide reasons why you are wrong? Your NOT wrong. You just have your own opinions and moral beliefs, and we are entitled to ours.
Just because your favourite colour might be blue, and mine might be violet, does NOT mean i have to argue and provide reasons as to why blue sucks and violet is a superior colour. That is just silly.
Just as people have different favourite colours, foods, different religions, they also have different moral belifes and different ethics.
Alot of older people don't like music by Eminem because of the language and the messages in his songs. Alot of the younger generation don't give a shit, and are fine with it. Alot of people find words like bitch, motherfucker, slut, and who knows what offensive. Others do not. Others just think its plain funny:)
Urhm, uh, yeah... "bookmarks". There, i said the word, so i should be ontopic:)
Actually, to be honest, i do have 2 bookmarks in Camino (Chimera's new name). Its so i can get into Netbanking, and my bigpond cable usage meter easier... Camino also has my login/pass saved so i don't have to try and remember those wierd cyrptic shit that i was assigned with.
Between several browsers on one computer (IE, Mozilla, etc), several computers at home, many computers at school or uni, and now computers at work, it simply fucking sucks.
I gave up years ago.
I don't bookmarks url's anymore. Its not worth the trouble.
I just use my memory.
Unless your dealing with lots of long complex url's (which i can then store in an email so i don't lose them) i just memorize everything.
Add bookmark my ass: what about the other 4 browsers on this computer, and 7 other computers i use regulary...
Usually when your busy doing something important, and you just fight it and keep going about your own business.. after about half a minute to a minute you realise there is no point fighting it, cuz it will keep insisting on doing it and won't stop. That, and it slowly gets worse and it tries to head west faster and faster... grrrr.

Absolutely!
This guy is in an excellent situation, and little does he realise how lucky he is!
I'm well into the afternoon on the 20th of june ;)
...
Its a good thing, too, cuz its the start of the weekend, yay! Can't wait to knock off work.
Oh yeah. I'm in Australia

You, sir, really are a wanker.
The metric system is far superior.

This has eroded the resale value of my powerbook even further!
:(
:)
The 667mhz powerbook simply doesn't sell at all on ebay.com.au anymore
What do us people with old powerbooks do?
I want to finance a nice sexy 15.4" Aluminium PowerBook (coming out real soon) or a nice PowerMac PPC970 (G5?) Tower, with 64bit Panther
D.
Is it just me, or did this story appear blue on the frontpage, while the rest uses standard slashdot aqua or whatever that colour is.
D.
Are you smoking something?
WinXP is FAR more stable then Win95 ever was.

Oh well....

Yeah, so funny........
Get a nice iBook, or 15" powerbook if you can afford it. Stay away from the 12" powerbook (its basically an ibook) and gets VERY hot.
:)
MacOS X has excellent multilingual features, and can be completely in Japanese, or English with Japanese language support and Japanese text input.
Just my opinion, anyway.
Actually, the only problem with getting her the powerbook is you won't want to let her take it... you will so badly want to play with it yourself

holy shit, i got FP :)
